Hi from South Africa
« on: July 26, 2007, 03:47:11 PM »
I bet you don't get many saffers here :)

Anyway, after lusting after an Amiga since I first saw one about 20 years ago (a mate's A500) I finally have:

2x A1200 with Blizzard 1230, 32MB ram, 4Gb CF HD, MiniCD built into the case.

3.1 Roms on one, with OS3.9
3.0 Roms on the other, WB31

I also have 2x samplers, a midi connection, PC-Key connector, several joysticks, many discs etc.

Waiting for my ToastScan, and some other ancillary bits before I am totally up and running.

The beauty of seeing a system boot into a GUI in a couple of seconds, still brings tears to my eyes. Sure beats the cr@p out of Winblowz.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi, this seems to be a brilliant community and I'm looking forward to many miggy adventures in the future.

I'll echo the other simple messages, Welcome.

Also, I'll add, if you investigate Parnet (or other equivalent software) then it is possible to link your Amigas together and browse the contents of one from the other, to the extent of opening up drawers and drag'n'dropping icons on the remote machine, or from the remote to the local, editing files, and so on. That way, both of them can in large part access the resources of the other. Neato, maybe a little slow, but fast enough, and very convenient.

NOTE: if you choose to link them, read the instructions and be sure that you make your cables correctly - you can damage the machines if you connect things the wrong way. Having said that, I used home-made cable adapters with no problems at all.
:)

Howzit Man,

Welcome from northern Scotland.

I spent 5 weeks in SA earlier this year, my Total Amiga magazine travelled with me from Jo'burg to CapeTown :o)

I must say I far prefer your winters to our pathetic excuse for a summer ! For once I was actually able to wear that infamous Amiga T-shirt.

Some wonderful dark skies too - and without the cold :o)

I think the only downside to SA was the mother in law ;-)

Bill.

Howzit Man,

Howzit back! So you are married to a saffer then, excellent!
Glad you had a good SA experience. Its a wonderful country with problems, sure, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

I always joke with UK mates and say "I'd like to come over for summer, but I don't know if I can make the 23 minute and 17 second window!" :)
