Some Bppc questions.
« on: July 27, 2007, 10:50:17 PM »
Hi
I have been having random lockups with my Blizzard PPC,i have read this could be caused with overheating..

So i have added a fan to the heatsink aswell as mounting a fan pointing directly at the main part of where the CPU chips are.

The original BPPC fan is also on the board and working fine aswell and i'm still getting random resets, mainly while playing MP3.

Whats this about something to do with the power from the original fan getting power from the motherboard and could cause random crashes??

When i put my hand around the side of my tower around the area of the BPPC it does feel rather warm still.

I should also note that the crystals are loose and are held down with tape,it was like this when i got the card, could this cause problems? How would i fit them properly?
My 1200 is in a tower btw.

Thanks
Gav

Well my machine had locked up earlier and reset and it booted again right away..Now if my machine was reseting due to overheating issues i would of thought that it would reset again after rebooting...

So it reset, rebooted and has been on for a while now and aint reset,im starting to wonder my motherboard is causing the problems as it is a 1D4..

Before i got the BPPC i had a 1260 and i never noticed as many crashes but there were some here and there..

Something i did notice though was that sometimes it would refuse to boot and i would just get to a black screen.
Also while reading a CD i would get a message about my cd discs having read/write errors but they were unmarked perfect discs.

The CD drive was almost brand new and worked fine in my pc,yet when i got the BPPC the machine refused to boot with the drive attached.

So this is why im starting to wonder if it is down to other reasons and not heat?Or atleast not just heat.

The machine has now been running for an hour right after the last reset when it locked up.

If you have removed the BPPC heatsink and replaced the thermal paste between the hs and PPC + replaced the PPC fan you shouldn't have any cooling issues
I have the same BBPC as you with the exact specs , mine is overclocked to 64mhz though
I also have an 1D4 mobo but not all of these mobos had issues

I have an A120 1D4, not really having problems running programs, or playing mp3z.. though I had problems running BVision and someone said that i sould do the MoBo Hacks to fix "timing" problems. So I did, and the computer were running smoothly... Windows were dragging nice, no lockup when changing screen mode (except for to the BVision). I never got the BVision working due to a hardware failure i don't know how to find, or were to look...
But it may be worth trying to fix, and not that hard to do. If you have the equipment available...
