Problems with YAM and Simplemail
« on: July 02, 2007, 03:28:16 PM »
Hi

I have 3 e-mail accounts that I have on the Internet,but I
don't know why YAM and Simplemail don't support neither work with my accounts.

I have a DSL connection on my house with 2 PCs connected and my Amiga One connected too.The provider is from Spain and with accounts with its name on it,works fine on one of the PCs
of my house.

I wanna know how can I setup YAM or Simplemail cause its
more easier to send your messages with these two than  with
the accounts on internet

Several times trying to send messages with YAM or Simplemail and it fails saying "error from" in spanish and
such a messages.

I want to know how to configure and the basic steps to get
my e-mail accounts on YAM or Simplemail up and running.

It's a pity to have these great two programs to send messages and can't take advantage of it on the Amiga One.

A salute for you.

you need to know the type of mail server your Internet Service Provider (ISP) uses; the most common is POP3, there's also IMAP and others.

I am not sure if YAM and Simplemail support IMAP (I think they do but don't quote me on this) - but they certainly support POP3. You will need to find out the address of the mail server (e.g. when I'm in Spain I usually use pop3.eresmas.es) and set the correct type in each program's config. This is for receiving messages.

If you want to send messages as well you will have to find out your ISP's smtp server's address and configure YAM / Simplemail accordingly.

Buena suerte!  :-D

Good!

Is there any more apart POP3 and SMTP that I have to configure?

Can you make to me an example of training to learn more about?

And do I have to use an e-mail account with the name of the
internet provider or makes no difference with other accounts with different e-mail accounts ?
For example:mixmail,terra,google...

It's my Damocles sword since very long.

I'm sorry Ivanhoe but I have neither the time nor the strength to write a step-by-step tutorial for your convenience. It really is quite simple, just have a go at it your self and if you stumble upon a problem write back and someone is bound to help you out.

Do it like the rest of us did, by way of trial and error - no better way to learn IMHO.

Clcik on Settings, Configuration and then the 1st steps tab on YAM.
You should be able to get the POP3 server details from the web site of your ISP.
If you can download some emails with the minimum config, we can move onto the next stage.

Finally I got my data from the provider and once that I make a new mail account I sent my firsts messages with YAM.
I am happy with it and I hope I can set up my other accounts with YAM and send messages with Simplemail too.
YAM it's now running on my system!
Very nice! :-D
