A question for A4000 users.
« on: June 29, 2007, 05:04:21 PM »
Can your A4000 fully boot into an Install 3.0 and/or Install 3.1 floppy disk?

Mine can't  :-?

The floppy is read for about 8 seconds with nothing appearing on screen. Then after about another 15 seconds a red Software Failure guru is displayed. Then after about 3 seconds there is a reset and the whole cycle starts again.

There is no problem with booting into the Workbench 3.0 or Workbench 3.1 floppy disks.

Any thoughts please?

Thanks,
A4000 Mad

Install the needed CPU libraries for your accelerator onto the Install disks. Problem solved.

Thanks doctorq

If I were to delete the 68040.library, the 68060.library would still not fit on the Install floppy as it is 102K.

What else could I safely delete from the Install disk to make space for the 68060.library?

I'm also curious as to why there is no problem booting into the Workbench floppy disk as it does not have a 68040.library or a 68060.library in the Libs drawer?

Thanks
A4000 Mad

I don't have any trouble with that, be it 030, 040 or 060... I have all those systems and I can boot into the install disk fine..

030 and 040 are Commodore and the 060 is a CyberStorm.. dunno if other accelerators are picky...
Back to action!

I had that problem once with the install on cyberstorm III. I just removed the 040.lib and it worked fine. I think it tries to use the 040.lib as it thinks the 060 is a 040.

Most likely because the programs on the Workbench disks haven't gotten any code aimed which would tricker either 040 or 060, so therefore doesn't crash even if you run it without the CPU libraries.

Heck, you might even be able to boot the install disk without CPU libraries installed as well, but the safe way is to have the CPU libraries installed.

Why bother with the Install disk anyway? All that is needed on there is HDToolbox, so you can easily make a copy of your Workbench disk and have HDToolbox on that if you delete some unneeded files.

Remove the hdsetup drawer from the WB3.1 install disk so you have more room (hdsetup sucks anyway) and put the 68060 lib in the libs folder on the WB3.1 instally disk

Spot on mate! With the 68040.library deleted there is no problem booting into the Install disk at all :pint:

Doesn't the Apollo 40x0 have a special bootup disk for installers?
