Subway USB Card Reader problem
« on: October 23, 2007, 04:54:04 PM »
Hi

I connected a USB Card Reader (an older one from Alcor Corp) to subway card. After some seconds Trident gives gives the following output.

Does someone know, what this all means ?

 5-massstorage.class: Command (00 00 00 00 00 00) okay, but:
10-massstorage.class: Sense block failed: nak timeout (10)
 5-massstorage.class: Command (00 00 00 00 00 00) failed:
10-massstorage.class: Command block failed: nak timeout (10)
 5-massstorage.class: BULK_ONLY_RESET failed: nak timeout (10)
 5-massstorage.class: CLEAR_ENDPOINT_HALT 2 failed: host error (3)
 5-massstorage.class: CLEAR_ENDPOINT_HALT 1 failed: host error (3)
... (these messages are repeatedly outputted)

i also tried to increase NAK-Timeout and Startup-Delay within Trident Options-Page, but nothing helped.
Trying to insert MS/CF/SD/XD Cards doesnt help either, they   are not recognized and not mounted (there is indeed a fat filesystem on all cards).

Im using Poseidon Stack V3.8 on an A1200, BPPC, BVision, OS 3.9 System .
Hope someone can help

Yep, Keropi is right. Had the same problem as you guys.
Bought a new card reader from Amigakit and all my problems
were gone.

Hi

As keropi suggested, yesterday evening i tried three different USB Card Reader/Writers
- Alcor Corp USB 1.1 Card Reader
- Alcor Corp USB 2.0 Card Reader
- Sitecom USB 2.0 Card Reader
none of them work. They all gave me the same error messages.
Are you sure that this is really only a hardware ( USB CardReader) problem and not a software (Poseidon) problem ?

Bye, MikeP

I've tried a Sweex usb 2.0 card reader and it gave me the
same trouble as you are experiencing.
I asked about it in the Poseidon yahoo group, but never
got an answer. Then I read on  EAB that the cardreader
from Amigakit should work flawlessly with Poseidon.
I decided to take the risk and bought one. I never
experienced trouble with it ever since I've installed it.

Lloyd

Did you try the latest release of Poseion (V3.8 second release)?

yes, better try the latest poseidon from www.platon42.de ... previous versions had some bugs in massstorage.clas, and usb readers just failed after a while...

Hi

Yes i installed the second rel of V3.8 (14.10.2007), it did not help me in any way. Errors as usual.

Yesterday evening, i bought two more USB Card Readers (those really cheap ones, about 12 Euro). They also have the same problem.

Huuu - thats really painful, now that i have 5 USB Card Readers and none of them is working.

If i swith on debug i get some more Warnings
5-massstorage.class: Cmd 00 00 00 00 00 00: Sense Key 2/3A/00
 5-massstorage.class: Cmd 00 00 00 00 00 00: Sense Key 2/3A/00
 5-massstorage.class: Cmd 00 00 00 00 00 00: Sense Key 2/3A/00
...
These Warnings occur with all 5 Card Readers.

and now i have also a new type of error message (Illegal command status block), it sometimes appears, not always:

...
10-massstorage.class: Command (00 00 00 00 00 00) failed:
10-massstorage.class: Illegal command status block (Sig:A5C35553, Tag=70C67BAE/425370C6 (TX/RX), Len=13)
 5-massstorage.class: Command (00 00 00 00 00 00) failed:
10-massstorage.class: Command status failed: nak timeout (10)
...
Any hints, tips what else i can try out, examine, test, ... ? Any help greatly appreciated.

As someone stated, the Card Reader from AmiKit seems to work. What manufacturer name and modell no does it have ?

Bye, MikeP

Unfortunately there is no manufacturer name on the device.
I bought an internal one from Amigakit, and I don't think
they sell them anymore, because it's not listed on their
website. They do have an external one.
Why not contact Amigakit about it. As I understand it,
this one should also work with Poseidon.

Ok, i will try to ask them giving me some infos about their USB Device.

By the way, i discovered some more strange effects with one of my USB Card Readers. Some time after having inserted the USB cable, Trident suddenly told me that this device dropped dead (low power condition) and has been disabled therefore.

No card was inserted at that time and before, and the Information page (within Trident) of that device tells me, that it only consumes about 100 mA at max.

BTW: USB mice and memory sticks work perferct

This all is now really confusing.

Hi

Problems now solved. I finally found and bought one USB cardreader working properly as it should.
The device is:
HAMA Easy Line USB 2.0 35 in 1 CardReader
Really cheap (between 6 and 11 Euros)
All types of cards (SM, XD, MS, MS Pro, CF) are now recognized and mounted, no more error and warning messages as reported. Now i can build that device directly into my A1200 housing.
