A3000 strange compatibility problems...
« on: June 02, 2007, 08:33:01 PM »
Ciao to all,

I have two new strange problems... :-?

1st
My A1011 only works with the A1200, not with the A3000...  :-(
As soon as I put a floppy, the icon appears with the "DF1:BAD" sentence; the icon does not disappear as soon as I remove the floppy, a boot is required and anyway the drive does not do its job.

2nd
I received yesterday a DMAC 04, the last missing chip to have them all newest!  :-)
I mounted today the DMAC 04 and the RAMSEY 07 and... the HD does not work anymore... I can see it, I can verify it (from the HDTools), I can partition it, I can format it... but at the end of this process a "no DOS disk" windows appears and the HD does not work! I can see it but I cannot use it!  :madashell:
Please not that the problems disappear if I remove the Cyberstorm Mk III! A problem of compatibility with the two SCSI controllers? I do not have a 68 pin cable so that I cannot test the card controller.
If I leave the old chips and the Cyberstorm (like now) the HD is ok also...
only one small problem remains now... as the Amiga is turned on a red&black error window appears and the Amiga must be rebooted (A+A+CTRL or "left button"), from now on everything is ok...
Really strange, isn't it?  :-o

Can somebody help?

Ciao and thank you

Hiya

I'm sure the floppy problem is a jumper on the motherboard. External floppy drives on A3000 should begin df2:

Check the motherboard manual or online for where the jumper is located.

The scsi problem could be a faulty 08 chip

I assume since your using the accelerator you have the INT2 fix on your motherboard? or maybe the accelerator has this interrupt line fixed in its own design?

If not.. do the INT2 fix and see if the new 08 scsi chip works correctly

Az
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example

Hi,

I am very confused... :-? first of all I made a mistake, you are right, the external floppy is seen as DF2.
I tried another external floppy I have (without brand) and IT WORKS great... only the A1011 does not! :(((
VERY VERY CONFUSED! :(((

What is 08 chip? :-o
My mobo (last revision... 9/03) has the INT2 modification... and the problem is only with the DMAC 04 or RAMSEY 07... When I wrote the first email I forgot what's DMAC for... well, since it is the boy that make the SCSI works, perhaps mine is simply faulty! :(((
What confuses me is that without the CS the SCSI works! ARGH!!! I am more and more convinced that the DMAC 04 is simply not compatible with the CS... has somebody experience... also with the A4000?
Are there any programs that test the HW in the deep?
VERY VERY VERY CONFUSED!!! :(((

Ciao and thank you

Couldn't be something as simple as not enough power to run the external drive, which also might explain why the hard drive works properly with the CS removed?

The DMAC-04 is compatible, I have two 3000's with newest chips and Cyberstorm works with onboard and the Cyberstorm controllers if the INT2 is done properly. The DMAC just handles some buss signals the WD33C93A is the SCSI disk controller. I would make sure it is newest 08 model or the AMD equivalent. Also check the CIA chip U350.

There's no possible 'workaround' for the CPU slot's missing INT2 signal that could be done on the accelerator. It must be added on the mainboard.

The DMAC controls the flow of data to and from the WD33C93 while the latter controls the SCSI bus. The DMAC is for the WD33C93 pretty much what Agnus is for Denise, if that makes any sense.

You are mad to want to use the A3000 SCSI when you have a CS MKIII.

Get a 68-pin cable and an Ultra Wide SCSI drive and enjoy a 10x speed increase over the internal SCSI!

This is a nice suggestion!!!
Now I wait a piece to open again the A3000 but I will sureley check the chips on the mobo... that they are all original!
I will check one by one! :-o
And then, as per the last suggestion, I will move all my SCSI chain to the CyberStorm one! :-D

One more question to your experience... I have noticed a very strange thing that could solve something... I see that after powering on (every time) and pressing the two mouse button to enter the OS setup display, the Amiga only sees one of the two HD (always the same... the newest)!!! After a soft reboot everything is ok...
If the CS is not installed all ok... the terminators are all ok...
I think there is some compatibility problem around there... I think I will have to remove one piece at a time and check the stability... uff...
