Scan doubler subsitute A1200
« on: May 13, 2007, 02:28:47 AM »
Just just set up my Plextor PX-AV100U on my windows machine and plugged my amiga into it via composite connector.  While the display was terrible (composite color bleed) it was rock solid even in hires laced with no flicker!
Because it only samples at 30fps it's probably not too good for games and demos but I don't know until I try.

I've seen a couple of A1200 s-video hacks.  I believe they involve nothing more than two 100uF capacitors and two 75 ohm resistors (and cable).

Anyone tried it?

Amiga 1200 030/50mhz 64MB Fast Ram 20GB HD
DTCV, S-Video hack, 1084S-D1, PCMCIA Wireless

that would be so cool having one of them and its a lot cheaper than a scandoubler.

...but image quality is a lot worse (might be ok for occasionally playing games though).

@magistral

Could you please fix the link? It destroys the page layout.

@humppa

You tryed that in particular?

Or you think all converters like that are crap? If you read the manufacturer web page, looks like its a good option.

Regards.

I'm using an interesting solution.

I have a nice HDTV, so instead of going for something vga, I decided to go component video as the TV has two of those inputs. There are Amiga RGB to SCART cables everywhere.

Then I picked up an SCART to component converter from Lenexpo for $99 delivered. comes with the hardware in a nice small box, power supply, and component cables. http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/

The image is softer than vga (more like the original amiga rgb on a 1084) but it goes to 1080 horizontal resolution and flicker is 100% unnoticeable in interlace modes.

Which device are you using? I didn't see any converters on that website for less than $200!

I once tried the Aver TV Box9, but returned it after looking at the mediocre image quality. Composite looked really blurry of course and things improved only a little bit when I used the s-video input (connected via genlock).
There is nothing wrong with these devices, it's just a basic difference in signal standards. When using anything other than RGB or Component, the signal quality is severely degraded. I spend a bit more and bought the CYP CM345S which accepts RGB through SCART connectors as input.
