A1200 motherboard questions...
« on: May 12, 2007, 11:38:04 PM »
So looking at it, I notice the A1200 motherboard seems to have a heck of a lot of "unused spaces", I'll call them.  For example, what are TP1 and TP2, down at the front-left (near the PCMCIA connector)?

Or U9, BT9, and TP9, over near the RAM chips?

I know that P9A and P9B are "clockport headers", or were for an additional RAM expansion of a never-released 1meg A1200, but is there any way to make them functional?  Example - mine is the 1D4 motherboard, that only has one-half of one set of these pins.  Could more be soldered on, to give additional clockport expansion capability?

Has anyone ever attached an FPU to that blank spot next to the CPU?  Does it work?

Just curious.  :-)

Hi, I soldered the extra clockport headers onto my 1D4 mobo but it didn't work with an early Catweasel I was trying to use to get 1.44Mb floppy drives working (I ended up with an LS120 drive on the IDE bus instead). Maybe there was something else missing  :-?

Dear Friend:

yes!! I put an FPU myself in the motherboard. i bought a used 030 accelerator in ebay..and the FPU slot was empty. i then bought a nice FPU for cheap at amiga centsible
www.centsible.com it was either a 40 or 50mhz. The FPU fit right into the slot, all I had to do is snap it and no need to solder. So now i got an 1230/50mhz/FPU/mmu and is super.
Good luck...hope this helps!!!

Hi rednova, are you saying you put the FPU on the 030 accelerator or on the motherboard  :-?

The TPxx are test points of various signals that could be helpful in diagnosing a faulty motherboard.
UT9 was for a real time clock, and BT9 was the battery that powered it when the A1200 was turned off.

Nope, only the 22 pins on the right of P9B carry any clockport signals.
On schedule, and suing

TS was asking about some unused connections/space on the motherboard of an A1200, not about turbocards with unused connections for extra expansion...
