A4000T, OS3.9 and pain!
« on: February 25, 2007, 01:05:57 PM »
Hi - I hope someone can help me.

I have a 4000T with CS060/SCSI - fresh 4gb partition on a clean bootable drive.

Because it is clean and I therefore cannot boot the cd, I created the emergency boot disk which boots up into workbench 3.9 from a copy of the emergency-boot folder from the cd which is held on the hdd - I did this because I was unable to configure the boot floppy such that the cd worked.

So no problems there, can get wb3.9 up and managed to run the installer.

The installer ran OK and duly populated the hdd but it will not boot. Each time I get invalid resident library after the loadwb command.

ROMS are def 3.1 (have double checked in case...) and I tried replacing the rom update file in devs: with the one from emegency-boot - in fact I tried all sorts and nothing works, just get invalid resident library which means no wb

Can anyone help? My knowledge is a bit thin - new amiga after having retired them for a good number of years!

I have the workbench.library in libs: from the cd also so am baffled.  My install 3.1 disk does the same thing but the workbench.library is missing from that disk so would expect it.

Please help!

I had this exact same problem when I first got 3.9.  I don't remember which file, but some file on the installation CD was the wrong version, and I had to get it elsewhere.  Have you tried to install the BoingBags?

currently the AmigaOS 3.9 FAQ page is down (the engish version).

AmigaOS3.9 official FAQ page

Anyway the first 3.9 CD, failed to copy the right SetPatch version.

Look at your CD and search the more recent version.

Watch out for that IPrefs stuff too... I installed 3.9 on my A4000T yesterday and I had to put "echo" comments in the Startup-Sequence to get some sort of log on what was happening.

What i eventually did was that i commented away start of IPrefs (i.e. ";C:IPrefs") - rebooted, then ran BB2 + BB2 installation. Then uncommented start of IPrefs again. So, something in BB1 or BB2 must have sorted that out.

Also had some problems with SetPatch; mine was successful when running with SKIPROMUPDATES argument.

Its a real pain to get everything in place when installing 3.9.

And thats nothing compared to the odd Warp/Warp3d stuff... "Is it sunday today?", "then get this obscure version of this secret library update from some unknown download area somewhere or your Amiga will reboot on the double." Am I getting too old for this...?
