Is there a Minimig design contest?
« on: February 18, 2007, 11:47:45 PM »
I just posted a couple of pictures of a possible minimig case design. They aren't up yet, but, is anyone putting together pictures of of cases that people would like to see?

I would not mind creating computer cases for Amiga.
A cad drawing and 3D rendering would be good.

Just a silly question: Who is going to get these cases manufactured? Wouldn't it require run of tens of thousands to actually make any sense?

My next door neighbor owns a plastic injection molding company where a small run could be done, and he would not charge me a fortune for a setting up molds if we can help by providing the design CAD drawings to him.

I am willing to help in this way if it will move us closer to having a finished product for the few of us that are interested in building our own Minimig's
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

A 3D design contest would be interesting.

for those of us who need to make parts but don't have leet friends there is http://emachineshop.com/ .

Their software is okay and their prices are a lot less than what I worked out with local places and you won't need autocad  or have to hash it out with ther machinists on limits because their cad software is designed to have a good correspondence with their toolchain.

I designed this crap with their stuff, havn't had it made as it turned out that a pick and place approach made this part irrelevant.

Sorry if this post comes off like a spam, its not intended. I just think this place has some good deals and some easy to use software if you need to make a specific part for a machine.

Ok, they're up now.

Kind of messy, but its something I threw together in a couple of hours. Hope someone can come up with something better looking. Extra points if it looks artistic.

This is retro, we've had retro things inside joysitcks but looking at the form factor of the MiniMig 1.0 board it is too big to fit in a Joystick.

Can anyone think of anything stereo-typically Retro that it might fit in?

Lets excluding old Amiga computer cases to make it interesting.

I think an old GVP HD8+ case might be ok, but a little big. It would give it that Amiga shape and feel.

A Cumana External Floppy drive case?

I'd rather have the unit on a PCI board that I could run inside a normal computer :-)

How about one of those mini keyboards for PDA's (like this)

In a more Amiga style, with an MMC card slot on the right hand side as well as some 9pin D Subs (or those mini HD9 D subs)
Make it look like a real tiny Amiga.

That said the link above to a minimac type design is very cool too.
