Dataflyer 4000sx and ImageFX issues
« on: March 12, 2008, 10:39:12 PM »
Hi folks. I just got a dataflyer for my A4k for the issue of running my Epson scanner with ImageFX.

Trouble started when the install disk hung when booting (it wouldn't work even when I booted in OCS). I tried to then manually install the files according to the manual. I then ran the test program, and the scanner shows as hooked up (and correctly terminated).

But, when running ImageFX, it can't find the scanner. I assume that just having SCSI.DEVICE listed in the scanner prefs isn't enough. Also, is something supposed to be added to the User-Startup?

My Amiga is currently in the rest-house (or surgical table, your choice) to major improvements. And I have the 4000+ Dataflier on it.

Yes, there is a line in the s-s, but I don't remember now...

When I wake up my little monster I'll post the command here.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

When you installed Image FX did you have it install all the addons including the one for your scanner?

...I mean it's not like Image FX has a loader for everything automatically.
Sincerely,

Yep, installed everything. When you have a 40 gig HD, you put everything on it!  :-D

I have the same setup on my A3000, where its just SCSI.DEVICE in the scanner prefs and the Epson module chosen. All the scanner modules were included. I imagine it might be similar to using SquirrelScsi.device when you use that. Maybe there is something like it for the dataflyer.

Just for make it easy: fire up "sysinfo" and look for devices.

I'm almost sure you'll find the dataflier device in there...

Ah! Good idea. Luckily, it comes included on the install disk!

Argh!

Just when I find out the disk had the wrong version of the install program (made for the A500/A2000) my HardDrive up and dies on me. I had just gotten the correct install program off of the Install Heaven website too. Had a spare 1 gig, which also had serious errors on it, so I'm back to using the original 200 meg HD. Hopefully, I'll locate a new HD soon. The old one is really full.

Is this the Dataflyer that plugs into a Zorro slot or the kind that piggybacks off the IDE port? The latter uses ExpXDS.device, case sensitive, so plug that string into ImageFX instead of scsi.device. I don't know about the Zorro slot variety.

I strongly recommend a manual installation (probably just a matter of copying the right device to Devs:) because the built-in installer messes with files all over SYS:.

Hi Matt. This is the one that plugs into the Zorro slot.

I think the problem was that the A500/A2000 version of the software was not compatible with OS3.9 because of the problem of it having trouble booting from the disk. The one I got off the Installer Heaven seems to work, since it looks like the screen shots in the manual.

The ExpSys.device didn't even work, thats why it didn't even show up in SysSpeed even though it was physically in DEVS. Too bad the drive died.

Hells Bells.

Something is really F-D up. Now my regular HD doesn't even show up! I guess you were right Matt. Letting the disk install the files probably messed it up. This is horrible. It had an installation of Toaster4000 on it that I wanted to save until I got a newer HD.

My A4000SX works fine as host to a SCSI hard drive and external SCSI CD-ROM for OS3.5

I had to add an extra command to my s:/startup-sequence to get them to work though because the autoboot never worked.

DFmount 0

I am sure this is just for drives I doubt that will help but you never know.

Hi Alex

Is a scanner possible as long since it works fine with my A3000? Scanners are not listed in the manual.

To be honest I've no idea. I do know that the DF units were considered to be ARSE

I never succeeded in getting mine to autoboot, nor work with an external ATAPI (DVD-ROM) device.

I dont think it's DMA either so it just sucks.

I do have the manual and the installation disks if that would help?
