Amy has landed
« on: February 20, 2007, 09:51:37 PM »
Well my Amy has finally arrived - and she is gooood.  Looks like the Madrid postal service held it for ages and tried to play footie with her tho :( (thanks bro for packing it so well - take more than a footie session to bring an amiga down) - popped the cpu board back in and she fires up....

its a 50MHz blizzard standard cpu 68030 (no extra ram sockets tho its one of the straight replacements for the A3630...

There appears to be a VLab revision 1.0 in there also - mmmmm

She is fully popped with 16mb fast ram and a Wester Digital 1Gb hdd n DVD Rom drive ( will mess with a spare DVD-CDRW later)

One thing - I haven't the time to shut down my PC so i am running on a TV (for now) - how can I change the screen mode from VGA style to std freq's without hooking up to a monitor?  any suggestions?

>>> a very pleased bunny indeed  :lotsacoffee:

Amiga 2000, 3000, 4000, 1200, 600?  Can't help you on the screen modes unless we know this.  Or are you talking about the Amiga in your signature?

When reading the topic ("Amy has landed") I naively assumed that it already was the 1st of April and Amy'05 by Troika had been released.

Hi Costabunny

Congrats on getting your A4000 :pint:  :pint:  :pint:

Without trying to freek you out, there is a file called 'screenmode.prefs' in Workbench:Prefs/ENV-Archive/Sys which is the current saved screenmode in your A4000s hard drive.

If you boot from a Workbench floppy disk and replace that file in the hard drive of the A4000 with the file from the floppy, it should make your A4000 ready to go on an Amiga monitor in 'Hi Res' mode

Well it has worked for me on occasions when I have stupidly left a hard drive in a graphics cards screenmode :-P

Aren't all Amigas 15Khz PAL/NTSC by default and you have to tell them otherwise?

It should be as simple as selecting PAL:High Res Laced in the ScreenMode Preferences and just using the video/composite ports.

Does an A4000 have an RF modulator as standard?

EDIT: Hang about, if you're already running on a TV you must be in a PAL/NTSC mode already?

sorry - yes she is a A4000 rev.B and appears to have OS3.9 on the hdd (have full set of 3.1 WB disks and can boot and access HDD partitions with no problems)

Thanks

oh and the bloomin wb disk appears not to have a screenmode.prefs (am gonna nose on the other disks - this floods back memories and the shell is my fried again already :) )

if i cant find a screenmode.prefs - will deleting it cause any harm (tis already backed up in the system:/rachel folder ;() )

Am running off a WB3.1 fdd for now 0 edit - deleting the screenmode.prefs seems not to matter(is there a backup already that the OS can use?) - its OS3.9 me thinks btw if thats any different

Well I just deleted the 'screenmode.prefs' file from an A1200 Desktop running OS3.9. It booted again ok in Hi Res using an Amiga monitor but only in about *4* colours. So you then have to go into Workbench:Prefs and double click on the 'ScreenMode' icon. Now just slide the colour up to 256 and click on 'Save'. This puts a new 'screenmode.prefs' file into Workbench:Prefs/Env-Archive/sys  :-)
