The Workbench wont help you much without the kickstart either.
The Amiga's OS is half in a ROM (a chip on the motherboard, called the Kickstart) and half on floppy. (The GUI is called Workbench)
You may be able to find the kickstart 2 roms on eBay but I would really recommend paying extra and going for the 3.1 Rom, its much better and doesnt require any upgrades, except 1Meg of ram.
I think Amikit and Vesalia sell the 3.1 roms for the A500, make sure to get the disks too though.

Hi,

So when is a product that isnt sold anymore considered obsolete???

Old stuff may still work but if it is no longer supported it should be no longer in bondage to whatever or whoever says they are amiga or commodores heir.

Hi,

Okay I updated the kickstart to 2.0 I believe but having to use a 1.3 workbench which doesnt support hard drives is not very helpful.

I didnt want to open the case and fool around but my trumpcard 500 wouldnt boot with 1.3.

So didnt want to leap tall buildings with a single bound so opted for 2.0.

Can be quite snakebit so wouldnt want to zap my 500 before I can actually use the trumpcard hard drive.

But that is another problem a big foot might solve.  So will see before I leap up to 3.1.

1.3 supports hard drives.. You just have to have FFS in the RDB of your hard disk if you want to use FFS partitions.

Of course it could be that the trumpcard doesn't work with 1.3, but I have no experience with that controller. Seems odd that it wouldn't, though.

hI,

Well the trump card didnt like 1.3.  I forget the error it came out with.

So it did work once or twice after I updated the roms.

But my workbench disk 1.3 has nothing in extras or utilities drawer.

I found a copy of 2.1 so will see what it looks like when it arrives.

I need to either get an external supply for the trump card or find a big foot.

I have only seen photos of the big foot.  Is it an IBM power supply with an amiga power plug???
