I own an Amiga again!
« on: June 02, 2003, 09:04:42 PM »
OK, I'm so serious about my porting work on the Mozilla project, I actually bought a real amiga

Towerized A1200, Mediator*, Ethernet...

heck I'll probably use it for two days then sell it,
but I bought it, may God have mercy on my soul.

*(theoretical SharkPPC platform too)

I noticed on Elbox's website they continue to
suggest the SharkPPC will be produced
after OS4 is released for AmigaONE.

Can anyone confirm this?  Hyperion says no, they
say yes?

Will Elbox rep. please verify?  The prototypes are
complete, just ready to go to manufacturing?
Hyperion has a prototype in hand?

Cheers

What have Hyperion to do with the release of the SharkPPC ? Or did you mean an OS4 version for the Shark ?

Everything you say will be misquoted and used against you.

It was on Elboxes website that they said that
SharkPPC will go to manufacturing after
OS 4 for AmigaONE is released.

So Elbox made the link.   But then again,
I wouldn't want a Shark unless it ran OS4, so I
hope they have talked to Hyperion, or Amiga, Inc.
or To Whom It May Concern!

But then again, they already promised a Blizzard
version so this is definately OS 4 upgradable in theory

Nobody knows for sure.  Elbox say that it (OS4) will "just work" due to high compatibility between SharkPPC and A1.  Hyperion say it won't work, and they can't make it work because Elbox havent supplied them a SharkPPC.

It's a tough call who to believe since Elbox certainly know their stuff and make some pretty #### hot hardware but then again they could just be using the OS4 compatibility line to sell more Mediators as people like to think they're future-proofed.

Hey Dave, are you going to offer up the code you ported to the AmiMoz project?  :-?
Have you hugged your KennyR or Paul Gadd today?

@MarkTime

Have fun with your new machine.

In some video benchmarks I ran a while back with
P96 Speed, I came to the conclusion that the
Voodoo 3 should add a HUGE speed boost as
opposed to AGA (even in the "wildest"
comparisions I could come up with, giving AGA
every advantage possible, it still looses by
a great margin).

So...theoretically, the Mediator should make
a solid difference according to the tests.
I never bought one, but I would be
very interested to hear from you about the
performance when you get it all going. :)

The bottleneck just shifts back to data transfer and ultimately the speed of the CPU.
Hate figure.

There will probably always be "bottlenecks"...
especially with this old hobby equipment.
MarkTime (at least I'm pretty sure it was him)
mentioned at one time how AGA can really put
a damper on proc speed...and I agree...hence
my post about the mediator/voodoo in comparision
to AGA.
