Amiga OS3.9 to Windows XP Samba problems
« on: February 11, 2007, 12:15:00 PM »
I've almost set this properly, there's just a few little problems.

I can see the Windows box on my A1200 with

smbclient -L name

I can even login and get files using smbclient, however when I try and use smbfs I get 'Hostname not found' even though smbclient can find the Windows box.

Also, when I try to connect to the A1200 from XP, I get asked for a password, even though there's not one set! If I do set a password for the Guest user, it still doesn't work.

Any ideas anyone? I'm using Samba 2.2.5 (I think) and Genesis on OS3.9.

Cheers,
Gaz.

Wish I could help Gaz.
I got so frustrated with Samba on Amiga that I gave up. (It was sucking too much time!).  I Got it to work fine on Linux E3 and Solaris 9 to Win2003 with AD authentication at work but I couldn't do it at home with my Amiga. That is on 3.1 though. In the end I set up Xitami FTP Server on my XP PC / Server / Internet Router and just use AmiFTP.
I hope someone can help you as I would be interested in finding out myself.

Yep, I tried Samba as well and what a mess!

I also use an FTP connection to my PC; fast and reliable.
