guru-666:
Pictures will give you an idea.  Search Ebay for "compact flash ide" and you will find hundreds of them, ranging from $2 and up.

I used one of these in my A4000 earlier, but due to a defective Compact Flash card I converted to a quiet 2.5" disk instead.

They behave just like an ordinary disk.  My A4000 booted in zero point zip seconds.  The only noise heard came from the PSU fan.

Highly recommended if you want an ultra quiet 600 or 1200.
Code 6502 asm or... DIE!!

the only thing you need is a standard ide-bus so it's perfectly possible with the 4000 (and all amigas that has ide) i guess.
You will need a cheap ide2cf adapter (ebay) and you will need to use HDInstTools (aminet) or a patched version of HDToolbox (aminet)..

the speed will only be limited by the slow ide-bus of the amigas i guess (?), so you will have max. amiga-speed.
but the best thing is that:

-no spin-up time (a harddisk uses time at boot to spin-up)
-it's completly silent and
-isn't affected by moving your amiga or anything else that could damage a harddisk
-it uses little power (compared to a hdd),
-doesn't get very hot (meaning your amiga won't get that hot either).
