5 1/4 inch floppy disks and Commodore PET
« on: November 25, 2006, 10:23:10 AM »
Hi all,
If I was able to get hold of a 5 1/4 inch old-style floppy disk drive with a applicable interface, would it be possible to get it to work (I.e. At least read floppies - Im guessing that the device file will need some adjustments) with Amiga OS3.0? Would OS3.0 be able of reading floppies that have have been used with a Commodore PET?

If yes, then, would it be possible to load up old files from 5 1/4 inch floppies that used to be used on a Commodore PET and execute them via a emulator such as VICE?

Any thoughts much appreciated,

Hodgkinson.

It depends on what floppy drive you had on the PET. At least the 4040 disks are readable (but not writable) with the catweasel and also the 1541 handler on Aminet.

The disk formats differ by one sector somewhere on the disk, so that's why you shouldn't write to 4040 disks with a 1541 / something that impersonates a 1541.
