A4000T power supply connector overheating

Hi!

Does anybody have a clue about why the power supply connector, the main one going to the motherboard, overheats?

Today I noticed it while removing the CPU card, after having had the computer on for several hours. The connector is quite hot and the plastic looks like it is going yellow...

The power supply is 250 W and I don't have many boards installed, just the following:
- Apollo 4060 turbo
- Picasso IV
- A2065 ethernet
- A2286 bridgeboard
- ISA super I/O controller
- ISA EPROM burner

I think it should be more than sufficient!

Sounds like it's just a bad connection between the socket and the plug.
It could just need cleaning and maybe tightening the pins in the plug to make a better contact.

The original power supply is of a rather low quality.
They all seem to overheat sooner or later, mine did, and it has happened to many A4000T owners.

Solution: Replace it with a better one.

It's a known behaviour at least on A4000D, the 5V line with the most amps going thru develops contact problems because of aging/loosing springiness/oxidizing. Do what Doobrey said.

Going the ATX adapter way is your best option. The Amiga power supply's are old and not trustworthy anymore. Getting a 350watt ATX power supply is so very cheep these days and will power alot of things without troubles. I have the older ATX adapter and have not had troubles with it although the new one that Amigakit has now (linked to above) is far better as the wires are much beefer then before (just purchased one)  And having the power switch included is a great addition.

It seems I solved by removing the connector, spraying some contact cleaner and then refitting it, now it isn't hot at all!

Later I will have to check the system with more memory on the Apollo, maybe this power supply problem led to some instability.
