MAS Player
« on: October 25, 2006, 11:43:05 PM »
Hey all,
Anyone use this with a fairly basic machine? I was looking to run it on a basic A1200 with 4MB fast ram and that's it, and it works great with the supplied software - but I don't like that. I'd much prefer to use the MHI device so that I can use a program such as Amplifier, as I was hoping to be able to control this unit using ARexx. However, it's appalingly slow, can't play any decent bitrate at all... Anyone know of a player that'll run on the original 68020 and supports an ARexx port? I'd have a go at writing one myself, but if the MHI library's simply not up to the task there wouldn't be much hope for it really... Cheers!

I just sold my MAS Player Pro version a few days ago
I had it on my 68030 CD32/SX32 pro using AMPlifier and it worked excellent.  Takes like 10% CPU load though. But I ran SCALA presentations while MP3's were playing and it ran great.

I highly recommend AMPlifier over AmigaAMP....AmigaAMP is best used for gfx card users.

Also use the simple MUI skin if you have to.
although I used it with the main WinAMP skin and it worked good.

Get the CLI MAS commands from Aminet too!

EDIT:  forgot to mention....I also used it with my plain 7mhz A600 2MB chip and it worked perfect except for the software which was not very responsive....but the music played perfect as long as you werent multitasking.
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Have you got the 'standard' MASPlayer or the MASPlayer Pro?
The pro uses less parallel port writes, so the Amiga can play higher bitrate streams.

AmigaAmp can use the MHI libraries too, it might be worth a try.

On schedule, and suing

Sorry - should have said that, it's the Pro version. I don't mind things not being too responsive or not running much else atthe same time - really all I need is ARexx control of the player. Might try out those DOS commands, see if they're useable - I'd like to have start/pause capability on them really...
