Wireless Keyboard
« on: September 03, 2006, 04:00:21 PM »
I've recently bought a cheap wireless ps2 keyboard for my A600 which works really well within Workbench and applications.  However, when playing Pinball Dreams or Pinball Illusions, I've noticed a slight lag in response (which makes the game more challenging I suppose).  The lag is definitely down to the keyboard since it's not there when using a wired keyboard.

Can anyone recommend a particular make/model of wireless keyboard that doesn't have any lag?  TIA.

Not necessarily. Some keyboards/mice use Bluetooth to communicate with their base station, which then connects to the computer by PS/2 or USB. That would work on an Amiga. Obviously a keyboard/mouse which connects directly to a computer's bluetooth interface wouldn't work on an Amiga (yet).

I am really curious to know how on earth did you connect a wireless PS2 keyboard to the A600???  :-?

And what's the purpose of an external keyboard on the A600 anyways?

@alenppc

I've connected it via an adapter based on Stephen Marsden's IBMKEY design.

It's connected to my A600 for testing purposes - I didn't want to risk it on my A1200 until I was confident it wouldn't do anything nasty.

My main reason for wanting to connect a pc keyboard is that I intend to towerise my A1200.  It's far easier (and cheaper) to make a ps2 adapter and connect a pc keyboard than source/buy anything Amiga.  IMO modern pc keyboards (made by Logitech, Microsoft, etc.) have greater quality, reliability and style than any Amiga.

I've also made a ps2 adapter for the mouse port.  Again, modern optical ps2/usb mice are much more accurate, responsive and reliable than any Amiga mouse.
