As topic, instead of 4 x 4MB SIMMS, can I install 2 x 8MB ones???

Yes you can however the total ammount of memory can't exceed 16MB on the 4000 Mainboard.
you still need a 2MB chip for chip ram however I have had some success with 4 MB chips even though only 2 MB is recognised.

I would just make sure that they aren't those really weird two sided job dealings that bend up and break the simm holding. BTW, what was Commodore smoking when they decided to use PLASTIC for the memory clip?

oh nice, gonna test it then...
and yes, the simm sockets on the 4k mobo are LAME , what an idiotic decision!

You'll have to put the 8 MB modules in socket 1 and 3 to make it work. 8 MB is fine for Chip-RAM too, you just have to set the jumper to 8 MB. 4 MB would be recognised as 1 MB in that case.
