« on: May 17, 2003, 10:11:10 AM »
hi,

just did a check and it seems that ibrowse show jpg pics about 5 times faster than multiview. took about 20 secs of waiting before multiview build up a 1024*768 jpg. Ibrowse did it few secs.
Anybody know whats happenin here???

Thanks in advance

You don't give any information about your system spec, so I can only guess...  Presumably you have a graphics card and no PPC?  If you are using OS3.9 and a 15/16/24-bit display, you could try loading up the "PictDT" prefs program, and disable the "Dither HiColour" option.  Normally picture.datatype dithers images, even for hi/true colour displays.  Dithering can use the PPC which is quite fast, but still this does cause a delay, and if you don't have a PPC then the delay will be much greater of course, and could well explain why you're seeing a speed difference.  Of course, IBrowse is built for speed and doesn't really have a need for outputting superior image quality on hi/true colour displays by using dithering, where the difference is negligable.

Also, which JPEG datatype are you using?  I would suggest WarpJPEG, obviously :-).  WarpJPEG has a number of options affecting speed/quality trade-offs.  If you're still using OS3.5, you can turn the dithering off via WarpDTPrefs, since you can't turn it off with the PictDT prefs like you can with OS3.9.

thanks,
i tried installing that but it asks me which version to install : for the ppc it shows warp and morph os. The mig however is equipped with a 604/2somethingMHz, but Im running plain 3.9.1. No warp or morph os. so what should I select here?

Many thanks

So, you're saying you have a PPC but do not use it  :-D
