OS3.9 install...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: August 15, 2006, 02:21:51 AM »
Greetings!  I need some help before I pull out my hair.  I finally received a scsi device that works (squirrel) for my A1200.  I had OS3.1 installed and did a full install of 3.9.

Upon reboot, I got a resource.library v44 error (cannot open amidock).  After searching the forums and the faqs, I found that I needed to install the boingbag updates.  As is, I can't get my 3com 3c589 net adapter working, so I found the bags in lha format on a german site (http://os.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=12) and burnt them to a cd.

I copied bag 1 over to the hard drive and realized unarc won't work (gives the resource.library error), so I stuck in a floppy with lha and managed to extract the archive.  However, when I click on the install icon, I get the following error:

"Sorry and error has occured!  Interpreter: Executing non-function"

I'm stuck...real stuck...any advice appreciated.

Dave

Something got botched during the install. Do it again over your current installation. It's something to do with a ReAction class. If you didn't boot from the Emergency Disk before running the installer, this tends to happen.

Was it an installation on an empty disk or did you install it over 3.1?
All the best,

Seems like you didn't use the Emergency-disk for the OS3.9 install.
Just copy the INSTALLER from C directory on your Emergency-disk section on your OS3.9 cd to your C directory on your OS3.9 hd partition and run the Boingbag install again  ;-)

I did actually use the e-disk.  However, last night I was able to resolve the resource.library issue by manually recopying the resource library file and all the 3.9 gadgets.  You are correct about the installer file as I am currently installing bb1 as we speak.  Makes me wonder how many other files are botched.

Now all I need to figure out is how to setup my 3c589 network adapter.

Will you be using Genesis form the OS3.9 CD? Works well for me. And Neil Cafferkey's superb 3C589 patch, let us know if you have any difficulties.

I will be using genesis.  I've downloaded and installed the 3c589.lha patch (places 3c589.device) in devs/networks, but I am getting zero play across the 10baseT.  There was a note in the readme that I might have to plug it into a windows box and specify whether to use 10bT or coax, but I didn't have time to futz.

@n9uxu:

The A1200 has a bug - PCMCIA cards aren't initialized properly at poweron, you need to reinsert/insert the card while the computer is running to make it initialize correctly, or preferably use CardReset.

To install it, just place the executable in C: and add "Run >NIL: C:CardReset" after the SetPatch line in the beginning of your S:Startup-Sequence.

Hmmm...well, I tried removing and inserting while powered on and then running genesis, and I keep getting no play.  Bootp request fails.  I'll pop it into my laptop and see if I can make it sing and then I'll try the card reset.

I assume you didn't make any special config?  Just ran the genesis wizard, selected network and let it choose its defaults?

Try specifying a static IP address.

Ugh...what a night...first suprise is that the side slot on my dell is not a pc card slot...not sure what it is...the size is keyed for pcmcia, but when you peer down the slot there is just a tiny little connector.  So...no testing the adapter.

I then go to the 1200 and it can not see the cd drive anymore regardless what I do...it says cd0: is mounted, but no cd...

fiddle...

fiddle....

What the?  I'm not paying attention and format the boot partition...ugh...

Emergency boot floppy won't boot...

fresh 3.0 install underway....

GADS!

Dave

I quit!  Fresh install of 3.0 went fine.  Installed the squirrelscsi software and nothing.  No CD drive to be found anywhere.  No indication of anything wrong.  squirrelmount doesn't see a drive...workbench is clueless...doesn't matter what I set the ID too...ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!  It is time to frickin' walk away...

I used to have a squirrel scsi PCMCIA card and it seems to me that you had to disable or remove the files from another device because it wasn't compatible with squirrelscsi.device...

It should be in the readme with the squirrel?

Hi,

I have recently installed the Squirrel onto an A1200 and you may need to move the CD0 Icon from Storage/Devs/Dosdrivers into Workbench/Devs/DosDrivers.

Also,

Make sure the tooltype in the CD0 Icon says

squirrelscsi.device.

and

Interesting...when I setup the squirrelscsi first time, it installed the squirrelscsi device.  However, when I installed it last night, there is no squirrelscsi.device to be found anywhere.  Also, no squirrelscsi.library file.  Muy weirdness.
