RF shielding
« on: May 11, 2003, 07:32:58 AM »
I have to remove the RF shielding off my a1200 motherboard so I can stick an internal scan doubler in it :) Question: Will that decrease stablity? I have a fair amount of electrical appliances in the room. Big stereo, 25" tv, PC next to it with 17" monitor, fridge, etc....

Heh, I will install that scan doubler no matter what actually, but it would be nice to know what I'm getting myself into. :)

Removing the shielding should not effect the operation of the computer at all.
It's designed to reduce RF interference radiated by the computer, rather than shield the computer from interference.

Things susecptible to that kind of RF noise are AM radio receivers, TVs and the likes.  You probably won't have any major issues.

What is your fridge doing alongside all your hifi equipment? Makes it possible to grab cold beers, without leaving the computer? :-)

Sincerely,

-Kenneth Straarup.

Having a fridge beside the computer is a logical idea, how else do you keep the cold beers at hand?

I'd be questioning the 25" TV.  Hope you aren't using it via the A1200's modulator for word processing or something  :)
Would be fun for games though....

To answer your other question, I'm in Christchurch.  You've probably heard of me, I'm about the only one doing component level Amiga repairs in NZ at the moment.

Anthony.

Technically, removing the RF shielding from the A1200 would cause a lot of problems for TVs and stuff around the house - bad pictures, etc. The A1200 is an RF monster. Personally, I always got TV interference from the A1200, and removing the shielding did bugger either way.
