amigaone with Matrox Parhelia?
« on: May 13, 2003, 01:29:16 PM »
I remember reading somewhere on the amiga.com site a few months ago about the amigaone specification containing ''the next generation Matrox Video card"
is this still on the cards?

also does anyone know if an a1200 bridgeboard is still going to be produced?
cheers

A lot of stuff on amiga.com is very ancient and not up to date. Wasn't Matrox also one of A Inc's 'partners'?

And an A1200 bridgeboard? :-?

yeah apparently the bridgeboard was going to allow us to connect the amigaone to an a1200's motherboard to gain access to the custom chips.
haven't heard anything on it for a while though.

The Matrox Parhelia sucks. An ATI board would be better (NVIDIA is out of the question, since they refuse to open their architecture/protocol to the public).

It doesn't suck unless you are only looking to running 3D games and benchmarks.

I agree toRus.
I've had the Parhelia for a few months now and it handles anything I throw at it.  :)
haven't had a problem with 3d games at all yet

@bubba119,

I haven't heard anything about the A1200 Bridgeboard in a long time. I think another company was doing the design for Eyetech, but that didn't happen, so the bridgeboard is probably dead.

As for the Parhelia, apparently that is going to be supported in the next version of Warp3D. See the AmigaOS feature set pdf: "The first installment of OS 4 will include the current V4 of the generic Warp3D low-level driver system. For the time being, both the Permedia 2 and Voodoo 3 graphics cards will be supported, with Radeon support to follow.
Warp3D NOVA, the follow-up to Warp3D V4, will be a complete rewrite and all-new design."

Now I hear mention of native support for the Radon (including the 9000 series) and Voodoo cards, so I'm not sure if if they've decided to hold off on Parhelia support until the next version. Personally I used a Linux box with a Matrox G450, and while it wasn't a 3D powerhouse, it did have a nice clear display which I liked. I think the 2/3 monitor set-up will have some applications in areas like video-editing, but it's not a gamer's card at this point.

I think ATI is a better horse, becoz it's faster and cheaper that matrox.

The only less point is the triple&dual head, but is another war...
