Getting an A1200 on the internet...
« on: July 28, 2006, 10:48:57 PM »
I have a Psion Dacom v34 Gold card PCMCIA modem and I would like to use it in my A1200 to get it on the internet.

I downloaded pcmser.device and installed that (according to the reasme my modem is ocmpatible with it), but I'm not sure where to go from here.

Could someone please give me a few step by step instructions?

I am using an A1200 with a Blizzard 1230 Mk4 / 50MHz / 128MB Fast ram and Workbench 3.1.

Thanks

Assuming the card you refer you is essentially a 56k modem (and not a lan card, the steps are as follows:

1) get a TCP/IP stack: Miami or AmiTCP/Genesis will do. Search around for them (aminet etc)

2) install your stack of choice and set pcmser.device as your default device (in place of serial.device)

3) configure the stack with your ISPs settings (i.e. dial-up number, username and password)

4) click on 'dial' or 'go online' (depending on the stack) and that's it - you're online

Thanks. I will try that tommorow.

I just hope I will be able to at least access a few sites with it, as it is only a 28k modem (v.34 is 28k isn't it?) and I wouldn't expect browsing to be thast fast on an A1200 anyway.

I should be alright for IRC and email though.

I managed to get it all set up and working. AmIRC runs nicely on it :-)

I'm bidding on an ethernet card at the moment so hopefully I'll be able to connect it to the ADSL router soon!
