ReqAttack, ReqChange & PatchControl
« on: July 26, 2006, 02:41:45 AM »
I'm having problems with the combination of ReqAttack, ReqChange & PatchControl.

If I behave badly, and don't use patchcontrol, both reqattack & reqchange work (however not sure how long they would...).

If I try to use all of them, sooner or later some requester patched by reqattack doesn't show up and system crashes after a while.

This requester-patching is quite a new area to me, so I'd like to know what are the recommendations in this area. Is MagicASL also "required"?

I'm using A4k/ppc/mediator&voodoo3/kickflash w. custom ks3.9.

Forgot to add, that any combination of two out of three works fine: ReqAttack & PatchControl, ReqChange & PatchControl, ReqAttack & ReqChange... This would say that ReqChange and ReqAttack, when used both, are patching something twice? and PatchControl don't like it? However, I'm quite sure these two programs are often used side by side.

As I understand, they patch different aspects. ReqChange (which is similar to one in MCP's options) patches filerequesters etc. to use ReqLibrary, while ReqAttack does some fancy eyecandy and other stuff on about-requesters etc...

I noticed that they work in AmiKit-package on emulated environment, so there should be someway to make them work reliable.

AFAIK they both patches some system functions. (intuition?) and i've never used together

Read carefully the ReqAttack guide for further info (trouble shooting and suggestions like the use of StackAttack)

I have been using ReqAttack with some reqtools patches like the one of MCP and a standalone patch (i think it is named ReqToolPatch) and never had any problems. I don't use PatchControl because i don't find it necessary. Probably PatchControl is causing the problem in your case.

Well, I got them all working, when I disabled intuition-patches from ReqChange. However, I noticed that PatchControl caused bootproblems sometimes, requiring me to do  softreset. So I removed PatchControl, but atleast I removed that useless doublepatching too.

What still wonders me, is that AmiKit has all these patches running with no prob.
