DPS PAR compatible drives. Help wanted!
« on: July 10, 2006, 08:43:37 PM »
Can anyone tell me what big drives are compatible with PAR board? (what he is using?)

In latest readme in release 2.55 (or 2.57?) is list of compatible drives, but those are really small and really old drives (1-2gig max), and i want to use at least 4 gig one (8 will be really better)

I ve tried a plenty of old spare drives (Caviars from 1.6gig, thru 2.1 gig, 4.3 gig or ie. 13 gig quantum etc. etc.) but none of them works :-?

PARTest seems to be stuck at last testing thingy, it says something like "Write error, drive is not compatible".

The largest one listed in the manual is a 1.6GB Micropolis 2217A. Mine came with a 13.6GB Maxtor 91366U4. I haven't tested it, but I *think* it works.

as the big book says  for the PAR: The PAR contains what appears to be a SCSI controller and an IDE controller for use as dedicated drives for capturing video. The PAR may be limited to hard drives of 8GB or less, but this is unconfirmed. Cards containing a Revision A 35-PAC-AUB may have problems if a second IDE drive is added. In order to fix this problem, the chip needs replacing with a Revision B 35-PAC-AUB. The DR-2150 is the NTSC version of the card, whilst the DR-3150 is the PAL version.
A3040/25 AmigaOS 3.9
A1260BPPC AmigaOS 3.9/4.0
Sam440ep AmigaOS 4.1.2
PegasosII/G3 AmigaOS 4.1.2/MorphOS 2.7/Debian 5.0.7/SUSE 11.1
MacMini/G4 1.5 MorphOS 2.7/OSX 10.5.8
Long Live Amiga

If i am going to have bugs on my system,
at least let me keep the latest versions.

@ amije

The Big Book's actually wrong in this case (!)
The 50pin connector isn't a SCSI port, but an interface to a TBC.

(I've emailed the maintainer with the correction)

:) so, i will try to repeat my question.
Problem isnt with ide interface (no scsi, thats a hoax, its really for AD3000 capturing card i think),
problem is ive tried around 7 drives (1-15gb) with no luck!.
(bigger drives always appears as 8GB, so it is limited to this border)

I need answer from someone who is actually using some drive with DPS PAR and can tell me exactly what type and manufacturer is it.

I checked the Amiga Hardware Database (http://amiga.resource.cx) page on the PAR as well. They say it maxes out at 8GB.

Have you tried asking at the VTFML (Yahoo-based Toaster mailing list)? I'm sure someone there knows.

Seagate ST31220A 1gig
Connor CFA1275A 2.27gig
Micropolis 2217A 1.6gig
Seagate ST3600A ? gig
Seagate Medalist ST34321A 8 gig (I think)
quite a few other Seagate STxxxxA drives will work with this card, the 13GB ST313021A worked (as an 8GB drive) with the PAR card.

The maximum size IDE drive the PAR will recognize is 8GB. Any drive larger than that will show as an 8GB drive.

Also, on mine anyway(when I had it all set up), there are two drives attached to the card.

Dual-drive support for the Amiga PAR requires an IDE interface chip, designated AU8, revision B. The chip will have a marking of either "AU8 rev B" or "PAC-A8B". All but the earliest boards have this revision.

The 50 pin connection is used with a TBC

hope this helps...
