A1200 PSU Question
« on: May 09, 2003, 11:07:40 AM »
Guys,

i'm just rewiring the power on my a1200, and i want to double check I've got the pinouts correct.

Looking AT the socket on the BACK of the A1200 board we have:

   +--v--+
   |1...4|
   |..3..|
   |2...5|
   +-----+

   1: +12v
   2: Ground/Sheild
   3: -12v
   4: Ground
   5: +5v

Is this correct? My multimeter has gone walkies, so I can't buzz out the pins :-(

Secondly, I need to connect a std PC HDD power cable to this socket as well, the power cable is coloured:

Yellow (+12v)
Black (gnd)
Black (gnd)
 Red (+5v)

So I'm presuming  Yellow to Pin 1, Red to Pin 5, and any of the blacks to the grounds ?

Have I got all this correct ? I'm working blind but don't want to hold up my project while I try and locate my multimeter :-(

I don't know offhand, but there are instructions for this on Aminet, so search for PSU on there.

Note that if you don't hook up a -12v, you won't get working sound.

Cheers tickly, I've already done an aminet search,  and the pics/guides are somewhat vague. :-(

Thx for the tip on the -12v, I did wonder what it was for...

Hello,

Checking with the A1200 schematics, I make the pinout as follows:

Looking at the connector,

+---v---+
|3 . . .4|
|. . 5 . .|
|1 . . .2|
+-------+

1: +5V
2: Shield
3: +12v
4: Ground
5: -12V

I advise you to buzz your lead out.

On my power lead I connected the coloured wires as follows:

A1200 Lead    PC PSU
Black               Black  (0VL)
Red                  Red     (+5V)
Brown             Yellow (+12V)
White              Blue     (-12V)

Commodore never seemed to have a common Colour code for their PSUs so beware.
I left the shield un-connected.

Oh the -12V is used for the Audio and RS232/Serial port.
