a2000 retro hardware questions

I'm cobbling together an A2000 since I cant find
the parts to put the 3000ux back together and have some dumb questions...

I put in a gvp 030/33 3001 with 8meg. I replaced the
a2091 with a gvp 2000-hc+8 also with 8 meg. I know
zorro II is limited to 8 meg, but does that include
the CPU slot?

Also I put in the A2410 graphics card from the UX but never
did get it to do anything with workbench, I got EGS to
throw up some useless clocks and calculators on it but thats it. Is it usefull for anything?

Last I put in an old Toaster 2000 but have no software
to drive it. Is that available anywhere and will it
even run under OS3.9?

Well, I have all the disks for Lightwave (no idea of the version), and I'll let you have them for the cost of postage.

The 3000ux had a '040 board and simm adapter board that
meant that the case (powersupply/hd floppy platform) had to be butchered for them to fit. The computer was on a desk in front of a window that leaked and water set on the
rear of the board and caused some corrosion around the
connectors. I cleaned it up, it still worked. But I never
reassembled it and put the components in a box when I moved 4 years ago.

Now I can only find the motherboard (no ram since it had
a simm adapter), the zorro backplane, and the power supply. The case (a 3000ux badged one kinda rare), the ram,
and the 040 accelerator/ram, floppy, hd are missing.

So Im putting a 2000 back together to play those games I cant on the CDTV.

Maybe someday I'll buy a 3000t case with PCI and make it right.

It varies . Some Cpucards put their 32-bit memory in the 8MB Zorro2 space, whilst other doesn't and other you can configure to put some memory inside the Zorro2 space and some outside, so it varies.

All cards that supports more than 8MB 32-bit fastram has to be able to put memory outside the Zorro2 space.

You can run CyberGraphX 4 on the 2410 board, which gives you the normal Workbench (all system-friendly stuff) on the graphics card. CyberGraphX 4 is a commercial product and is more or less the defacto RTG standard on the Amiga.

The 3000 should still boot with the on-board '030 and just the socketed CHIP ram... or is this an old "soft-kick 2.0x" type machine?  Maybe you could plug that stuff in to see if the A3000 is even worth resurrecting at all!

There is no socketed ram since it was removed fot the simm adapter. It does have 3.1 roms though.

There is ZIP RAM on the right side of the riser board - that is the "FAST" RAM, and on the left side there should be the "CHIP" RAM in a DIP style (not ZIP) package - by the edge of the board - is there not?

To run CybergraphX on the A2410, you'll need to remove 2mb from the GVP Zorro II memory card to make room for the video card's memory requirements (1.5mb).  You'll also need to check the oscillators on the A2410 board.  I believe you'll need a 36MHz and 66.667MHz oscillators in the two clock positions in the upper right hand corner of the board.  I suspect this because I have an older 2410 board with 14 and 36MHz crystals.  Though it runs EGS just fine, I get just a grey screen with CybergraphX 4.  I've been meaning to change the oscillators when I get a chance.  In any case, iirc the A2410 is capable of a 256 color workbench in 800x600 or 1024x768 though it may be quite slow and you'll still need a vga switchbox and flickerfixer or scandoubler in the A2000 video slot to see normal amiga 15KHz games etc. on a vga monitor (or just use a two monitor setup with a 1080/1084 or similar running of the 23 pin rgb connector of the amiga and a vga monitor off the A2410.

You are absolutely right. I forgot all about that. I powered it up this morning and got the boot screen.

I did find the cyberstorm memory board but havent found the
040 board yet. I hope I find it. Last I checked they dont exactly give those away.

I'm sure you can find ZIPs around the 'net somewhere.  Was your '040 board a PP&S Mercury, a CBM 3640 or other?

It was a phase5 cyberstorm. I do have a few zips in a parts drawer... But I hope to find the adapter board. Those
pins on that board were very fragile so even if I find it it might be useless.

I found the 040 and the ram adapter. Seems to power up. Now I just need a case. I can scavenge a scsi drive out of a mac and a floppy out of a 2000.

Im at a loss for the case problem though.

That's good news.  Another Amiga back in action!

You may have to trim off some metal on the top/front of the A2000 drive if you plan on stuffing it in the A3000.  Of course, if it's not going in the original case, then you don't have to worry about that!
