Unbending PCMCIA pins
« on: June 10, 2006, 04:40:00 PM »
Does anyone know how to unbend PCMCIA pins?

I now have three bent pins in my A1200s PCMCIA port and I really could do with having them unbent as I would like to use some PCMCIA devices.

The pins that are bent are the two at the very right, and the one on the top row that is next to the pin on the very right.

Thanks

well you need a long-thin nosed plier and unshaking hands. I did this operation both an amiga 1200 and amiga 600. I was successful both of the times, but I had to break the black plastic casing to reach to the pins. And you have to be careful when you're inserting something to the pcmcia slot for the rest of your amiga's life. I just put in a pcmcia flash card adapter, and I never remove it. I just remove the flash card.

Be careful, as those pins can weaken with multiple bending.  Make sure you don't overbend them.  If it's their first time getting bent, then they will probably be safe.  Getting bent too often can be detrimental to their health though. ;-) I've had problems with noisy signals from this issue before, but not with that port.

I've also used the blade of a knife wedged between pin and housing for this type of job before, but be careful doing it this way.
Good good study, day day up!
