Searching for 5.25" faseplate with LCD display
« on: October 19, 2006, 06:23:31 AM »
Hi

I'm searching for a 5.25" faseplate with a 2*16 or 2*20 charracter LCD display with parallel interface (HD44780 compatible).

So far I've only managed to find One device that matches these criterias. I have a hard time beliving there's not more out there so I'm asking for you people to reply with links to the ones I've overlooked.

This is the only device that I've found (that's still available to buy): Ebay

CSA made something like that, that would monitor CPU usage and display it on a 5.25" panel. Its on their website, even though the company is long gone.

CSA cpu monitor
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

I'm NOT looking for a device to monitor my computer. I'm looking for a faceplate with a 2*16 or 2*20 charracter display where I can, with the parallel port and the correct software, write whatever I want to the display.

So far none of the suggestions are close to match what I'm looking for. :-(

I know there are quite a few USB and Serial solusions of this but I'm looking for a Parallel solusion so I can plug it to my Amiga and "bling". :-D

I'm fully aware of the do it yourself method but I was planning on using a finnished product for the best look.

Take a faceplate of a 3.5 floppy in 5.25 bay front plate and srews to fasten the an LCD to it so it is visible through the opening and solder cables to the LCD is not a problem just a solusion I wish not to have to make.

CrystalFontz make complete packages; I have one (larger) serial version in my PC. Works a charm. (bought straight from them)
The there is Matrix Orbital who also make very nice modules.

@Tahoe

Can't find any parallel versions at Matrix Orbital
Same goes for CrystalFontz but as they do custom versions according to their site I tried cotnact them about a custom build... but they declined due to workload backlog. :/

But no matter what these prices are all quite a way of what I imagined paying for one, especialy after looking at the cost of a bare display.

Guess there's no other way around it but to bite the bullet and customize one to my liking... then I can also add extra buttons and leds that I need for the tower. :)
