WHDLoad - Any way to get a frontend/menu for the games?
« on: May 13, 2006, 09:56:20 AM »
I have just installed WHDLoad and a number of my games to the hard drive of my A1200.

At the moment, all of the games are in their own folder which means I need to open my Games Partition, then the folder (ie SWOS, Speedball2 etc) and then click on the program to load.

Is there any way to either have all links/shortcuts for the games in one place, or some software that lets a menu be put together so that I can just go Games - pick one and play?

Cheers

I have to do the same as you, and have no problem with it, but if you really find it too much trouble you could get Toolsdaemon from Aminet and access the games directly from your Workbench screen with a pull down menu.

If you have OS3.9 you could configure Amidock to have a Games bar and then juct click on the relevant icon from there.

But hey, for three double clicks, is it worth it?

It would be cool to have a nice fullscreen gui that shows some info and a picture on the selected game.

A GUI that one can start instead of the WB to save some memory. I have my 1200D like a whdload/game machine and the 1200T as a workstation.

You could try what I've done: link.

Each game still has its own folder, but the icons you can see launch the game straight away without opening a drawer. The icons are Project icons which use IconX as the default tool, which runs a script like this:

CD Mark:Games/Folders/Nebulus
whdload nebulus.slave

moto
Code: [Select]
10  IT\'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
20  FOR C = 1 TO 2
30     DA-NA-NAAAA-NAAAA DA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAA
40     DA-NA-NAAAA-NAAAA DA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAAA
50  NEXT C
60  NA-NA-NAAAA
70  NA-NA NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAA NAAA-NAAAAAAAAAAA
80  GOTO 10

Well....

there is this: http://igame.amigahellas.gr

You can consider it as being usable, but it's still in development (when time permits  :-) )

The version on the site, pretty much does what it should, i.e. scan your disks for games, and presents them in a list. You can then double click on a game and it will start. It will also read the game's tooltypes, and the search-as-you-type filter also works.

The program is beta, and may require some stack size but it works. Right now, I have a new version on my HD which also shows a screenshot from each game (http://machina.amigahellas.gr/stuff/igame_dev.png), you can edit it's genre, add a non-whdload game to the list and other stuff. The screenshot stuff looks good on my gfx amiga, but I'm not sure what it's like on pal miggys.

Anyway, that's all, hope you find it useful, I'll try to get the new version there sometime in the next days.

Anyway is the only way
