Is there a Pegasos 3 in the works?
« on: May 04, 2006, 03:38:27 PM »
Hi all,
I was wondering if there's a Pegasos 3 MB in the works, and if so, will Morph OS still support Amiga OS 3.X or even 4??? ( Yea, right, wishfull thinking )

I was also wondering if you could use a Kickstart 1.3 disk in Morph OS to make the older A500 games work?

Thanks.

A new Motherboard with two dual core IBM 970MP processors is in the works and scheduled for Q3/2006.
There is still no statement by the MOS team whether the board will be supported or not...
If interested in MOS I'd go now for a PegII. That maschine is ideal for MOS, available and does not cost too much.

No, but for old stuff you can use euae. For apps from the 1.3 days euae is fast enough. Main prob with taht old apps is not the OS, but they are banging the hw directly. The OS <2.0 was not that feature rich...

I think there was a recent announcement about this. Check ann.lu, it seems they've decided to give the peg3 name to thee dual-970mp server board.

Look up a UAE port for MorphOS.

Genesi's new quad-core G5 (2 x 2.5Ghz dual-core G5 CPU's) OSW is being released as the Pegasos III, and there will be a trade-in program for Pegasos II owners (send back your old board and get a big discount).  Pegasos II owners who trade their boards get the quad-core G5 for $799.

A post from Genesi on Morphzone mentions getting MorphOS running on the machine but I have no idea how much work (if any) has been going on in this regard.

Assuming MorphOS does find it's way onto the Pegasos III, it would still retain all the AmigaOS 3.x / WarpOS / PowerUP  compatibility (and limited OS4.x compatibility through OS4Emu) that MorphOS currently has on the Pegasos II.

Just plugging a kickstart chip into the Pegasos board wouldn't help as there's no original Amiga chipset in there.  You'd still have to run the AGA/OCS games through the MorphOS UAE port.

@ Amije

Where do you have that price tag from? The ODW (full computer based
on PegIII mobo) is scheduled for US$ 1500 for the initial sale. Later
price drops may occur.

The ODW includes the PegasosIII mobo, drives, case, gfx and memory.
