@Mason

I wold have thought that the A1 motherboard would be too big. However, the future boards Alan mentioned in his Gothenburg speech look promising, especially the mini-itx(?) boards. IIRC, they were looking at the boards having a horozontal AGP slot, to enable the height of the box to be kept quite low (like as in a pizza box).
I'm sure someone will find a way of fitting one of them into an old laptop one way or another.

"especially the mini-itx(?)"

The A1SE-Lite is planned to be an 200mm*150mm board,
mini itx is at 140mm*140mm if my memory serves
me right.

Btw how low(height) do you think a case housing the
A1SE-lite could be, if one uses a low heat
graphics card?

;-) There was quite a bit of discussion of that idea on this list, mostly among potential customers.  It’s really just a matter of having a large enough customer base to justify the cost of tooling up to manufacture them.  With that in mind, it’s unlikely that we’ll see them soon.

:cry: It’s a shame, too.  I’d buy one in a minute.

Here's how to make a laptop that would sell billions of units ... well, maybe not billions:

1. have a sensible keyboard layout, i.e. slice off the numpad and shuffle the arrow keys a little to fit the touchpad in on the right (bad for lefties i know)

2. use the rectangular form you just created to have a widescreen screen

3. make it so the screen can rotate a full 280 degrees thus using the keyboard as a stand

4. DVD drive

:-)

i'd buy two

the ONLY reason i dont own a laptop is because the keyboards are stupid. the widescreen solution seems bloody obvious to me. Amiga wants to change the face of computing? that's how

oh, and make it touch screen too, so you can at least "press" buttons on screen.... or fold the keyboard 180 and use it as a data pad!!! woohoo!

edit: to protect the keys in data-pad mode i decided you'd need to open the laptop flat then slide the keyboard up behind the screen. then with the pad facing up on your lap/desk the dvd drive would still be the correct way up. someone give me a job :-)

The AmigaONE-lite is in Micro-ATX form factor.

Mini-ITX uses a size of 170x170mm. I have two
of those myself. However, there are more
criterias than just the size. The overall power-
consumtion is one, max 55W with 1 DVD and
1 HD if i recall correctly.

@Cycloid
I would employ you if I had the money to employ anyone  :-P

Your ideas are very clever, and I think a portable like that would sell very well if:

1... It was x86 based, running Windows xp  :-(
2... It was competitivelt priced - which will be bloody impossible with a design like that...

Sorry. But great ideas!
If you have any clever ideas for a guitar amp system - let me know  :-D
