Another advantage of using real Kickstart 3.1 ROMs is to use NSDPatch et al to allow the use of larger than 4GB hard disks on your A1200

BTW: If your A1200 doesn't have a CDROM, any original AmigaOS 3.5 CD or AmigaOS 3.9 CD bought from www.amigakit.com can be installed onto another medium when bought at the same time such as a PCMCIA to CF adapter or 2.5" hard disk.

Get OS 3.9 and a cd-rom drive... What you get? The latest released Os for the Amiga classic! I would never go back :)

I'd agree to a point, but only if you've got a faster Amiga with a graphics card. Otherwise, the changes aren't worth the bother and IMHO, OS3.9 looks cluttered on standard AGA.

Upgrading to KS3.1 ROMs can be useful - especially if you want to add something like a Subway USB adaptor (which requires 3.1).

you need to actually own the os3.1 roms if you really dont want to install them (fear of messing up?) then softkick. that is legal and covered under fair use laws.
the company can and should defend its copyrights. owning amiga forever (uninstalled) and using an image to softkick is a bit of a push but is also legal.
there is a legal way to get roms please do so. it doesnt cost much, ~40 usd so if you are springing for the blizzard get the roms too. btw there are places you can get os3.5 or 3.9 with roms for a lower cost then each separetly.
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,
and its read only!

In PC land flashing your motherboard bios is offered as 'support'.
In Amiga land, updating your kickstart by a minor revision is 'illegal'.

But the difference is that in 'PC land', the BIOS doesn't contain major parts of the OS.
On schedule, and suing

Yes of course - I respect ip and copyright. But I can't believe the copyright holders, whoever they are these days, would object this particular situation; a legal user of the 3.0 roms in hardware ugrading via software to version 3.1 ... maybe it's time someone contacted them to ask.

@rare_j

Let us all know what you find out.

BTW, you can run Workbench 3.1 on 3.0 ROMs witout (any?) trouble.  I did it for a year or so quite by accident.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

@ rare_j

following your argumentation, it should have been OK for users that have a fully licensed copy of Win98 to install a version of WinMe that they have found somewhere in the net, as it only contains some minor bugfixes.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.
