How to make my A3000 "talk" to my PC
« on: March 15, 2006, 04:39:36 PM »
Hello All:

I am running Cloanto AF on my PC and have currently ADFs for my games there as well.  I am wanting to turn them back into Diskettes for use with my A3000.

Two problems?  (They may not be problems, just ignorance perhaps):

1)  Will the Amiga care if the media is a HD/DS disk like is still available?

2)  How do I get the A3000 to physically link to the PC to get the ADFs from my PC to my A3000 hard disk, then how do I actually make the floppies?

One more bit of information:  At this time, the A3000 does not have a network card, do I need one to do this?

Thanks and hope someone can enlighten me.  If there is a URL that outlines these process(es) I would love to know where this is.

Cheers!  Mike

buy or make a null modem serial cable, and use the amigaexplorer from cloanto cd. install in the a3000 the amiga version and in the pc the windows version, set it up right and you're ready to go. the speed is low, but is the cheapest solution. on the amigaforever cd and at cloanto's site you can find instructions about this.
A3040/25 AmigaOS 3.9
A1260BPPC AmigaOS 3.9/4.0
Sam440ep AmigaOS 4.1.2
PegasosII/G3 AmigaOS 4.1.2/MorphOS 2.7/Debian 5.0.7/SUSE 11.1
MacMini/G4 1.5 MorphOS 2.7/OSX 10.5.8
Long Live Amiga

If i am going to have bugs on my system,
at least let me keep the latest versions.

So this is kind of a "Laplink" style solution?  Sounds interesting and I may actually still have a null modem adapter someplace around here :-)

I'll look into this.

The Parallel PC to Amiga Cable is here if you have no luck finding it.

Another much faster solution would be the X-Surf 3cc which comes with EasyNet and this will allow you to link to your PC and access the PC's shares.

I'm using a Belkin null modem cable which has both types of serial port cables ends available so it works with nearly any computer.  This and the AF software is all that I've used to move files between the computers.

I've moved all my adf files to the PC so I could burn them to CD.  Simple and fast!

Hi,

hmm most NULL modem cable are incompatible with the amiga's i/o poorts.
I build my own cable and i used TWINS to comunicate with amiga's, this is quite fast and realy easy to use from BOTH sides, but only works under dos on the peecee side.

I'm using ethernet at the moment , got my self an ariadneII card for my a4000 and some cheep PCMCIA cards for my a600 en 1200.
A4000T, 060@50mhz,36Gb scsi, 128 mb fast cvs64-3d, inidivision, x-surf, deneb usb. Gotek
A1200, 030@40Mhz, 16gb CF, 128 mb fast, ethernet, indivision, RapidRoad
A500, 2,5mb fast, 512kb chip, a590 + 8gb SD (scsi2micro-sd) and internal gotek

@Macabre

Where did you find your ethernet card and what was the cost.  I have an A3000, so IIRC, that same card should work?

Thanks,

No problems with the Belkin null modem cable.  I'm using it on an A3000 connected to an eMachine.  The A3000 has the full serial port connection and the PC has the smaller version.  Both connections are on either end of the cable....plug in and run the Amiga Explorer software.  Couldn't be simpler.  I can't see my PC on my network from the Amiga via ethernet.
