Looking for Classic Game, can someone help?
« on: January 25, 2006, 05:03:45 PM »
Greetings:

It has been a while since I have been on here.  And truth be told that I am looking for a system still though I have found a line on a nice A3000 I hope ;-)

I am looking to jump into OS4 in the very near future and well this is a topic for another area, not games :-)

To my post:  I am looking for a copy of SpaceQuest I and up to whatever versions were available on the Amiga... not sure if after II they even published them for the Amiga anymore?

Anyhow, would like to find this game, if you can help, please advise.

Thanks,

Mike

Space Quest and its sequels were available on Amiga. Space Quest 1 to 4 can be found at Back to the Roots a site for legal amiga downloads.

Ah, classic games!

Used to love Space Quest 3 - was that the one with the burger bar restaurant in space? Seems forever ago that I played it!

To play ADFs you can either use UAE (or some other Amiga emulator that allows the use of ADF files) or use a real amiga to transfer the ADF back to floppy. You will need some kind of package to do this. I use ADF2Disk.

Hello Again:

It appears that back2roots.org is offline!  Need another source for the ADF files for the SQ series.  Darn the luck when I go to finally download the files!!!

Hope someone knows of a good alternate site.

Take care,

Mike

It has been down for many weeks now  :-(
It seems like no one knows anything about the reason, so it sure does not look good.. The sad part is that there is really no alternative site for legal adf game downloads, so this site will truly be missed if it is really gone.

This is a real bummer.  I have actually priced the games out of a place in Michigan, I suppose if all else fails I will pay the $80 plus shipping and be happy.

I did find that Sierra (aka Vevendi Universal) is re-releasing the entire series for PC under Windows XP around the end of this month.  I have to chalk this up to rumour so far as I can not seem to find any "Official" news of this kind, but Amazon is taking Pre-orders for the software which they are calling Space Quest Compilation and the price is merely $11.99.  There was a Space Quest Collection for PC released awhile back and it was like $109 or so... but it apparently needed DOS so nothing newer than Windows 95.

Anyhow, if someone hears of any ADF sites that carry what back2roots did, or if someone notices them coming back online, please be sure to drop a note here someplace.

Thanks for all the help.

And a I leave you all with a hearty "Dang Nabbit!"

Hello - I have spacequest 1 to 4 as WHDLoad games (i.e games that were disk based to start off with but have been laterly turned into games which can be played from the amiga hard drive with the use of the WHDLoad tool).  Needless to say that this requires a Hard Drive in your amiga to work.  I also have the ADF of SQ2 and can talk you through using the adf2disk software. give me a shout if you want me to help out.

cheers

Hello you might check this site, it has all the ADF's you need (in TOSEC), only the Space Quests ones are cracked (in contrary to the ones that were once available on Back2Roots) unfortunately so I cant tell WHDload works with them.

@Morax:

Thanks dude.  I already have found the ADFs for the whole series and verified that they work.  Now I am just working on getting my A3000 up to par.

This thread is actually "solved" as far as my quest is concerned :-)  May be looking for Leisure Suit Larry series soon ;-)  Like that one too.
