A1200 in an A1000 case?!
« on: March 02, 2006, 11:28:30 AM »
I love my D-Box tower. But I've been looking at some A1000 pics and I love them more :-)

Has anyone ever built an A1200 in to an A1000 case? I would be particularly interested to hear how this would work with a PCI bus (Mediator in my case).

I've never seen an A1000 in real life so I have no idea if the case would be big enough to cram in A1200 mobo, 060, hard drive, CD-ROM, floppy, Mediator, PCI card.......

Just found this which might help to fit the PCI card in - it re-angles the PCI slot by 90 degrees so the card lays flat. Obviously it will cover the rest of the slots but I only use it for my Voodoo anyway.

Next question - where can I find a broken A1000 as a host :-D

The A1000 really isn't tall enough to do much with.

I have enough trouble myself getting things inside my A2000 case, as the PSU sites only just over an inch away from the CPU, and having fitted a Mega Chip, I have had to raise my VXL-30 and it almost touches the PSU/drive mounts.

But ask on eBay, i've seen dead 2000's go for a £5 + P&P (didn't manage to get rid of mine thou, so it had to go to the bin)
A500 1MB - A590 2MB
A600HD
A1200 OS3.9BB2 - 10GB HD
A2000 3.1 ROM - Mini-Mega 2MB + 8MB Aries - Malibu SCSI + 1GB HD - VXL-30 68030/50MHz
CD32
Power Tower - Waiting for Power Computing to ship bits :(

Please don't kill me, but I don't really like the A2000 case :nervous: To me it looks like an old 286 PC.

Does anyone have the internal dimensions for an A1000? I am wondering whether the keyboard hide-away could be utilised. Maybe a mini-itx PSU could go under there so the A1000's internal PSU could be removed, which should free up some space.

I really want to get my hands on a broken A1000 so I can see for myself how big it is!

Agreed - it can always be used for parts. Still looking for the internal dimensions of the A1000 case...

Cool! Thanks. I'm going to make something out of card to represent that size and see if everything will fit.

Cheers
