Amiga 500 LED Problems
« on: February 28, 2006, 06:35:48 PM »
Greetings everyone,

I recently started using my Amiga 500 after several years of being in storage. The Amiga loads and runs Workbench perfectly, but sadly the Power and Drive ligts do not turn on at all. Is this a problem that is easily fixed by opening the Amiga and fiddling with the wires or am I better off picking up a new 500 on Ebay? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The leds are on its own tiny pcb and should be easy to fix/replace.

You might be lucky that the leds has just loosened(sp?) from it's soldering. A quick resolder will most likely fix this.

Edit: Hmmm, I might be confused. The A1200 has the leds on it's own pcb. The A500 has the leds on the keyboard plate. Shouldn't be any harder to replace them though.

yes the led's are on the keyboard and not on a seperate plate beyond that i don't know how difficult it would be to replace. btw it may be a shorted connection between the motherboard and keyboard.
The only stupid question is a question not asked.

A LED is dead simple, only thing you have to do is solder the new LED in the right direction (but soldering it in the wrong direction won't cause any fireworks, the LED just won't work).
Also make sure you have a steady hand, and don't make it too hot.
