Clean Install on CyberStormPPC
« on: February 08, 2006, 03:08:35 AM »
I would like to make a clean install on my A4000D installed in an Elbox PowerTower w/Phase5 CyberStormPPC 060/60mHz-604e PPC/233mHz.

Any of you have ideas of how to make a completely new clean install starting with OS3.1, since it does not have support for the CSPPC/060 on the original 3.1 install disks?

I am not happy with my current OS3.5 install and I am having trouble with the CSPPC scsi controller.  It does not appear to be scanning the scsi bus for devices during the startup of the Amiga.  I can see devices on the cbppc.device chain with the included scsiconfig or unitcontrol tools, but have not been able to get the devices to show up on the Workbench to make them usable, even after mounting them.

I also want a clean install as I am going to change graphics cards and add some other additional cards and want to start with a clean system.

Any ideas?

LOL You are doing the exact same thing I just did to my A4000D :-D I also have the Cyberstorm PPC, so what you need to do is first of all DO you have an old A3640 card that came with the Amiga? if so then install it into where the Cyberstorm is as this is the easyest way.
Then install the OS3.1 from the install disks after formating the drive using the workbench disk. Install your CD drivers after that and then start the OS3.5 update as this will then install the O6O libs for your Cyberstorm. once you have the fullupdate installed then you can swap out the A3640 card again with the Cyberstorm.

Hope this helps.

I sold the A3640 long ago.  There must be a way to copy the files needed from the 3.1 install and add the required libs for the 060 to a floppy to make an 060 useable 3.1 install disk.

Thats a tough one...I tried to do what you asked and the Amiga would just keep rebooting. I forget if I tried to boot off the workbench disk or not. There must be a way to do this. Sorry if I cant be of more help here.
Your only option may be to leave the OS partition alone and just format the rest. But maybe someone on here will know better.

What OS are you running on your Toaster/Flyer, 3.1, 3.5, or 3.9?

3.5 and so far it seems to run just fine. but I did the reinstall of the toaster after I upgraded to OS 3.5 so that may be why it works properly I think it may not like having the upgrade done on a system that was already running 3.1 (not a clean install) like I did.

If I don't get any good ideas and can't figure it out myself, maybe I'll just keep my semi-working OS3.5 install, install the Toaster/Flyer hard and software and try to fix my problems with the CSPPC cybppc.device scsi chain instead of trying to do the clean install.

Here's what I'd do:

1. Make a copy of your Install3.1 disk if you haven't already
2. Rename Install3.1:Libs/68040.library Install3.1:Libs/-68040.library
3. Mount about a 5 or 10MB RAD: drive
4. Boot from the 3.1 Install disk
5. Rename Install3.1:Libs/-68040.library Install3.1:Libs/68040.library
6. Install 3.1 to your RAD drive
7. Reboot from your main system drive
8. Copy the contents of RAD: someplace and call it AmigaOS_Setup or some such
9. Copy the Phase5 68060 libraries to AmigaOS_Setup/Libs, overwriting the old 68040.library

Now you have a clean install available whenever you may need it. Just mount that RAD drive, copy AmigaOS_Setup to it and boot from that.

As far as your cybppc.device not picking up drives, the first thing that comes to mind is the termination isn't correct or isn't working. Beyond that it could be any of several problems. If they're prepped properly, you shouldn't need to mount them separately.

Anyway, hope this helps.
I sold my Amiga for a small fortune, but a part of my soul went with it.

Just copy all files manually from the Workbench disks, after you have booted without startup-sequence. Then copy the 040 and 060 libraries to libs: and you have your clean install of OS3.1.

I am having the same problem with my 4000T PCC card after the drive became corrupted.I made a sucessful boot disk however I still have boot problems after installing 3.1 complete with the PCC libs
I copied a 3.1 install to a 1.7 HD disk and coppied the PCC 040-060 libs to the libs draw. The new install disk boots fine however my problem is after making a clean install of  3.1 to my system partition along with the required PCC libs and rebooting the 4000T - right at the start of the boot process it comes up with software failure.
CAN ANYBODY HELP!   ALSO has anybody made a boot disk with the 3.9 HD Toolbox instead of the old 3.1 Toobox.
I tried by copping over to the install disk the classes draw with gadgets and images which is required with the hdwrench libary and resource lib however when trying to open the 3.9 HD toolbox it complains it cannt open the resource libary even though it is there  -Any thoughts

For those of us (such as myself), that have been away from the Amiga for years and are reviving our old machines, your quote may not make sense.  Can you make it clearer for people like me that may have less Amiga knowledge than yourself?

can you mount the cdrom from the PPC early startup menu (press esc on boot). tell it to mount cd0: Then boot of os3.1 disk but with no startup-sequence then type CD0: in the shell then type os-version 3.9
Then type emergency-disk (not 100% sure you will have to dir for exact names)
then type s
then type execute startup-sequence
this will give a clean os3.9 boot from which to install it
