Ebay does it again! (In Australia this time)
« on: February 11, 2006, 11:23:04 AM »
Have been watching an ebay auction for the past week. (Now ended) $686Aud for the Amiga 4000!

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8761373882&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

By the time postage/shipping comes into play (if they are not local) the box is what a bare bones 3gig PC comes in at. One of the bidders has tryed three times now to win, an Amiga. Perhaps he should give up!!

Amiga 3000: Towered, 12Mb Ram, 9Gig SCSI Hd, Retina BLT Z3, X-Surf, OS3.1
Amiga 4000D: Warp Engine \'040 40Mhz, 150mb Ram, CyberVision 64/4, X-Surf, OS3.9

I still cannot understand why people insist in comparing prices of totally different things.
Do you really believe that the bidder is interested in a 3GHz PC? Probabaly not and he probably already has one. He definitely isn't looking for an A4000 for its processing power but more likely for its retro-value which is subjective.

It's actually a fair deal, considering he will get a motherboard that has been well taken care of (battery removed), as well as a CyberStorm MK3 with 060 and a CyberVision 64 graphics card.

UAE on my wife's Duron 800 with 512mb of ram, running xp-pro recently played a few games (lemmings being one) better than my Amiga 500 did! Both using 3.1roms!

I'm not saying that this isn't decent deal (it is). IMHO it's over priced! But it has been many years since I was up with the latest going on's of the Amiga scene!

That is very cheap - far below the going rate for similar spec Amiga hardware on eBay.  The cards alone could be sold separately for more than that.

Or perhaps he should bid a realistic amount.  You can't compare it to PC hardware, which is by and large worthless after 3 years.  Amiga 4000's are sought after.
