Surfing from 'Inside' UAE...
« on: January 30, 2006, 11:30:17 PM »
Hi Gang,

I've just downloaded and completed a clean instal of WinUAE 1.1.1 & AmigaSYS 3, which are both fantastic.

Right now, I'm surfing from my PC but, of course, my PC thinks it's an Amiga running Ibrowse.

So - WinUAE is effectively the only program using the net and I'm not using a PC browser does this make me safer on-line?

Am I LESS likely to get a virus / spyware surfing the web this way?

Opinions / thoughts ?

You less likey to get a virus from clicking on the "wrong" webpage or "wrong" e-mail .. but your PC can still get infected via other means .. like the old Blaster worm came in via the RPC port with no user input required.

You're are best getting a good firewall and antivirus system setup on the PC at the very least.

You could also try running Linux with UAE on top, it's a bit tougher than bare Windows.

I think you will be pretty safe while browsing any site with IBrowse or some other amiga web surfer (in winuae or on the real stuff).
