Game Files
« on: January 15, 2006, 05:18:15 PM »
Hey there, I'm new to these forums as you can prob see.
I have 2 old Amiga machines (A600 and a A1200), I have been looking for games for the machines and I have come across some places for them but sadly I have no idea on how to get them to actually work with the machines. They are all in 1 files (a .ADF file format). How do I go about getting them to run on the machines. I have a box of floppies here (newer ones, not the ones from back years ago when the machines came out). I know there is a special format to put the disks to but I have no idea how to do this. Can someone maybe tell me or point me in the right direction on how to find out how to do it ?

Thanks
Neo

Firstly you need to be careful alot of this so called site are just pushing warez, so if your looking for some games then visit sites such as back2rootsand im sure some other people will add more legal links. but to transfer adf back to the amiga I use a program called ADFBlitzer aminet link
Specs:
A1200PT, mediator c/w voodoo 3 2000, sb128, 60G HDD,OS3.9,LITEON CDR, nec 4x4 changer,External Scan Doubler,Cocolino adapter,PS2 keyboard adaptor.

Morphos 2.6, mini mac g4 @ 1.25ghz.

The website I got was legit....I hope :p
Thanks for that bit of help there, you are a legend (not leg-end). That ADFBlitzer, how do I use it. There no .exe to run or anything. Sorry for being a n00b with this stuff, im only 14 :D Any more websites would be brilliant and any more help from Nasty would be brilliant

what version of workbench are you running?  cause most amiga files are in  .lha, which is a compressed file like zip, rar, ace etc etc so you'll need something to unlha the file, unlha is also available on aminet but i've never used it. there are some other tools available on aminet unpackerthat should do the job!

Im going to be totally honest here, i havnt got a clue what you are telling me here, I am using a Windows XP machine the now. All I want to know is where to get  games for the amiga put them onto a new floppy disk and play them. I dont mean to sound ungreatfull here but i honestly dont know what you are saying

ADF Blitzer is an Amiga program.  You need to put it on a 720k double-density formatted floppy disk which means on Windows XP you'll need to format it from the command prompt instead of from the GUI.  Then you'll need to copy the ADF Blitzer archive and use the PC0: drivers that came with AmigaOS version 2.x and up to copy ADF blitzer to the hard drive on the Amiga.  Then you can transfer the .ADF files to the Amiga and write them to Amiga formatted floppies.

BTW:  Windows cannot read or write Amiga-formatted floppies without either an arcane DOS program or a CatWeasel floppy drive controller.  That's why Amiga emulators on the PC use .ADF files in the first place.

Would you happen to know what the command would be?

FORMAT A: /T:80 /N:9
in either the RUN command or Command Prompt to format a 720k disk in XP (Or indeed any version of Windows).

Then the next step will be to transfer the Amiga version of LHa to the Amiga hard drive.  And you'll also want the the Windows command line version of LHa to pack those .ADF files to fit on a 720k floppy.

I manage to do this with Amiga explorer that came with Amiga forever, i first formated the disk in my amiga and then i moved the adf -file from my pc harddrive to the amiga df0:
i'm a newbie myself but at least my policequest worked fine with this metod.

If you have Workbench 2 .xx you should have Crossdos somewhere on it. With that program you'll be able to read the disk (as long as you formatted as a DD disk, 720k).

Workbench 2.0, 2.04 and 2.05 don't have CrossDOS, only Workbench 2.1 has it.
