Will a 1902 work on an A500 through the monitor cable?

Yes sir! (At least this is how im using one of my A500´s.)

Just plug one RCA cable on the modulator providaded with your A500, and the other end in the back of the monitor, where it says something like CVBS or something like that (i dont remember exactly, im at work right now).

Just experiment a little, and you will see it work!

If you need more assitance, dont hesitate and contact me!

Im sure me or somebody else here will give you the exact answer

Cheers

What I was hoping for was to hook it up without the 520 modulator.

The 1902 cannot work as other Amiga monitors, it is not a Analog RGB monitor.  The only way to hook it up is Digital RGB or Composite.
