Good point, but we are not just talking about adress space, but also a fundamental architectural shift in the x86 platform (16 GP regs and no x87 FPU for example)...
Bloodline: M$ only use a PPC because they used IBM to help design and build the new Xbox and IBM own the rights to the PPC ISA (and have plenty of experience building PPC chips)...
Intel is pretty stubborn when it comes to custom work.
