resource.library
« on: January 12, 2006, 06:12:53 AM »
well, I took the dive, I was quite hesitant to upgrade to 3.9.
NOW I have troubles...go figure!  anyways, I installed and rebooted and it's not using my gfx card, try to open screenmode app and it complains it needs resource.library version 44.  I versioned the lib and it is version 44.xxx.  well, I'm this deep into it, I formated sys: and tried again, guess what, no luck, same problem.  what gives?

C= A3000T
MK III 040/40
GVP spectrum gfx card
52M ram (I know weird config but it works)
3.1 roms (had WB3.1 installed and modded heavily, loved it)

Not exactly matching your problem, but a place to look.  From the AmigaOS 3.9 FAQ:

Quote

On bootup, I get the following error message: "Cannot open resource.library, version 44, unable to load AmiDock". I have the correct version of resource.library installed, and AmiDock exists in SYS:WBStartup. Why does this appear, and how do I eliminate this error?
A:

In many cases the problem message you received did not accurately reflect a missing or even damaged library, but rather the absence of a "#?.gadget" file that the resource.library function depends on. Check the SYS:Classes/Gadgets/ directory on your system partition and the OS3.9 directory of the install CD-ROM and manually copy any missing #?.gadget files. Ensure that all the #?.gadget files are the latest versions (do this by checking the latest Boing Bag first, then the OS 3.9 CD-ROM).
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

There was a problem with OS3.9 and older Versions of CGX4. If you use CGX4 as RTG-system install one of the latest updates.
Unfortunately the CGX-page does not exist anymore, but have a look here instead http://phase5.a1k.org/index.php?id=3
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

That was happening for me, with that resource.lib error.
A manual check found some missing gadget files.

I looked for boingbag, and some links to forums from here, boing bags seem gone, at least from haage, and forums as well.
I will continue my search for boing bags, then a way to get them to the Amiga, and lastly check gadgets and libraries.  I thank you all for the info, and hopefully not too many people have these problems.

The problem is not cgx related (imho). Run SnoopDos to see if there is a missing system file. You can also try to run the screenmode pref of OS 3.1 .

I have checked all .gadgets, installed p96 instead of cgfx, I do not have any 68xxx.library in libs. and no unixdir3 (fresh install)  and what else...I don't know.  I should have left well enough alone! where's the icon for kicking myself in the arse?

I give up, I'm so freakin disappointed, anyone want to buy OS3.9?
