amiga appleiigs monitor apple-amiga-pc 5.25 disks
« on: January 17, 2006, 06:08:37 AM »
I am trying to help a gentleman get access and recover his disceased wife's journals/docs from a working apple iie.

Looking for a way to get many documents (apple writer ii) on over 130+ 5.25 disks(140k) from a working "appleiie" with 5.25 floppy drive over to an Amiga3000 or to a win98/winxp machine.

A null modem hookup between said computers was suggested.  Yes, the appleiie has some kind of serial port (an old poor imagewriter printer is hooked to it at moment) but I haven't found any terminal/modem programs on his disks... I will look again though. Even if I find/get said program will the xmodem or whatever transfer "language" properly?

The other two ideas I had is 1)running apple emulator on A3000, but I would need a 5.25 drive which I understand is very rare.
Or ... 2) purchasing an apple iigs with 5.25 & 3.5 drives and transfer docs through that computer.  Question I have about Apple iigs is.... would it work with a 1084 monitor??

Thank you for your input,
Lar :-?

Hi,

Some of the Apple-related tools on Aminet might assist you...

It appears there are a few Apple ][ disk transfer and extraction applications, but I've never used any of these so can't really comment further.

Good luck!

If it has an Apple serial card then you're all set. There is a command you can type in at the ] prompt that will accept input from the serial port.

Then you get a text file dump of the Apple program called ADT. When you send it over a null-modem cable it will call the monitor program on the Apple and enter itself into RAM. Then you can use ADT to transfer and write a disk image of an Apple terminal program such as Modem Manager.

There are step-by-step instructions on the web somewhere, let me know if you have trouble finding them.
