Its as if computer geeks DO conform to their stereotype.[As if I have some duty to sit in front of my computer all day like some pasty faced geek!]

I know what you mean.  But these are the type of people that ruin the work "geek" for those that truly honor it.  As you know a nerd just knows a lot of stuff, but a geek can actually get things do with that knowledge.  The "geeks" you are describing attack people with angst of a Star Wars acolyte at a cancelled show.

Yeah I have met some of these people when I did sell some stuff on eBay (yes many of you have sold/bought stuff on eBay, so quit acting like it's trading pornography to deal there.)  It would be like 2am in the morning, and they would leave me messages for stuff they bid on, and then they would retract their bids because I didn't answer within 4 hours of their bids  :-?

Many people just don't realize that some people actually work some bizzare hours, and can't get to the computer as often as they can.

As for the Amiga hardware/software prices.  True some people go out of their way to "screw" the Amiga users, such as some  dealers will try to sell stuff that is definately a bloated amount (even with all the production, warehousing, other expenses), in hopes to capture on the emotions of Amiga users.

Yet there are some people that sell on eBay because they know that there is someone willing to pay that money for what they need. I mean yeah supply and demand.  It's not like many people are opening up a shop just to screw people over, just that a lot of people need money, and sometimes fast.  It's cool to get a deal and stuff.  I myself am happy when I can catch a steal at times.  But it's just plain wrong to constantly expect a hand-out all the time.  Just my opinion.

I've gotten good deals on both Aorg and Ebay, it's all about deciding what something is worth to you and being patient.

I was looking for an A1200 and there was an Aorg member who had  one. I corresponded back and forth with this person over the course of 2 months. Took forever to get descriptions of what he had and photos. I made an offer to him and was even willing to travel 600 miles round trip to pick the stuff up with cash in hand. He responded back saying that my offer made him laugh. I can tell you that it was  fair offer. I told the guy "I'm glad that I can make you laugh, but I still get to keep my money." I also told him that I could wait and that I would find an A1200 for a lot less than this guy was expecting to receive.

A month later along comes KThunder with an A1200. He gives me a damn fair deal on an A1200 with monitor, etc. and he's only 45 min. away. We meet exchange cash for A1200 and even have a pretty darn nice conversation too. As far as I know we are probably the only two active Amigans within a 300 mile radius.

I also had bought an similar system off ebay for about the same money, but the shipping costs are what really killed the value of that deal. I've also had some ebay deals that have been outstanding even when you include the shipping costs. I've had some where I just really wanted the thing so bad I was willing to pay what was necessary to win it. (my bad!)  And then there have been the ebay con artists who have just plain ripped me off. :madashell:  Btw... by a sure stoke of luck Doomy wasn't one of them. It was a close call though.

I really would like to see more people offer up their stuff on here too, but I know that even if I wanted to part with some of my stuff (which I don't) that some would have to go to ebay to even have a hope of recovering some of the over inflated price I paid in the first place. The rest could go on here.

As far as Aorgonites ripping off each other, that is just sad! A different forum that I belong to for vintage motorcycles has it's own feedback system and also has a forum user name to ebay user name cross reference. Very Handy! Perhaps something like that could be done here? Wayne?

Yeah some people just want to get more bang for their buck so ebay it is.  Remember it is all about the benjamins baby!

I lucked out and got a sweat deal on ebay of all places once, I got Two (2) Amiga 4000/040s a A2000, and two 1084 monitors AND all 3 had Video Toasters for a buy it now of $300.  You can see them in my photo gallery.

Deals can be found, but I also get irritated when people buy and part and resell to make a extra buck. Also starting really high starting bids gets old too.  Unfortunately not everyone wants to help you out.

Like I said earlier, I'm not looking for a freebie and will pay a fair price. The reason I'm looking for one here is because I want to get one in Canada, to avoid extra costs associated with shipping, taxes and duties. I check ebay regularly and lost one A4000 that was in Canada, nothing since then however.

I am still looking for an A4000 motheboard. It has been 2 years now. I always get outbidded in the las minutes because I am either at work or not at a computer at the time the bid finishes. I am almost ready to give up. I put all my extras in a A3000. I can understand your point in trying to get someone from amiga.org.  Good luck :-D  ;-)
