AMIGA 1200 HDD GAMES INSTALL
« on: December 28, 2005, 06:19:08 PM »
Hi all
Just got my 4 gb hdd working and set up in my amiga 1200.
I have a ton of games on floppys now what is the best way of getting these games installed onto my hdd drive so i can run them without the need of the floppys.
If someone has a step by step guide it would be a help or any help to a newbee on amiga's.
I have seen some posts about whd load but not sure what you need to do to get it to work.
many thanks in advance.

WHDLoad will do nicely. Download the User archive, install that, then get installs for specific games.

@Pudwink: is your question relating to transferring the WHDLoad archive from a PC to your Amiga?

Well what about using... a Floppy disk!!

Use a PC formatted floppy of 720K. The lzx whdload user file will fit on that.

There is plenty of information on using pc floppies on your Amiga.

Try to use the search option. I recently saw a topic about the same issue.

Thanks for the reply flashlab but what you forgot to say was that you can only format a disk to 720kb with windows 98 or below.
So what i am asking is if i format a disk to 720kb using windows 98 do i have to alter the disk in any way and which files from whdload do i need to transfer to the disk for it to work in my amiga.
I have done a search on this site but have yet to find anything which helps.

Hi, you can only boot with a CD or startup disk of win98 and format the 720KB disk. Then you copy from winxp the WHDLoad_usr.lha file to the disk and mount it in the miggy using  PC0.
That's all

Did you use the search option on this forum?

This has been discussed recently.

Anyway... here goes:
To start using pc floppies on your Amiga mount pc0:

To mount pc0: go to Storage/Dosdrivers on your Workbench partition (or on the WB Extras disks). Now you can read and format pc floppies. Use your Amiga to format the disk to 720K. Then you can use the floppy in your pc etc...

By the way WinXP can format 720K this way: format a:/n:9/t:80

Oh and I see the next question coming. You need to download lha to unpack the archive on your Amiga unless you use OS3.9. Look for it on www.aminet.net Read the docs for the usage. It's really not that hard.
